Subject:Sound Forge keeps audio port closed after exit.

Hi all,

I have an issue with Sound Forge. After I close Sound Forge and play any media file with any of my two media players the audio is muted. On the other hand Vegas has this option unchecked in the settings:

“Close audio and MIDI ports when not the active application”.

So, I have to just open and close Vegas after I am done working with Sound Forge to get my PC audio back.

Is there a way to tell Sound Forge not to keep audio and MIDI ports closed after it exits?

What version of Sound Forge and what version of Windows are you using?

Please fill out your system specs in your user profile.

“Close audio and MIDI ports when not the active application”.

This option means that when Vegas is not the focused or active applicanton, but it is still running. It is intended to allow sharing of audio hardware. When you close/exit Vegas, we release all audio devices.

What audio driver type are you using in Forge?

What audio hardware do you have?

When this happens, open Task Manager. Is Forge or still showing?

Sorry I was away for a little bit.

OS: Windows 8 Pro 64 bit.
Sound Forge 10.0e (Build 507)
Audio Interface: Focusrite Saffire Pro 24 (FireWire)
Audio Driver in Sound Forge: Saffire
Media players: MPC-BE, Splash Pro EX

When I exit Sound Forge it is not running/showing.

Vegas was doing the same thing (was locking audio driver) until I unchecked “Close audio and MIDI ports when not the active application”.

BTW, Sound Forge doesn’t have this setting in preferences.

"BTW, Sound Forge doesn’t have this setting in preferences."

Correct. I typed Forge instead of Vegas.

forge does not need this setting as it opens ports only during playback/record. Vegas does.

I am not seeing the problem you are, though I do not have your specific hardware.
