This should prove to be interesting and drama filled none the less. It goes without saying that Sony is really letting the PC end of its platforms die a slow and painful death without any indication of updates pending. Should there be an update to Acid Pro and Sound Forge Pro for PC I will be the first to recant! |

Well for all ACID fans this press release isn't a good start and makes 0 mention of Acid Pro as a platform... (I have to say I am not surprised.) If Sony doesn't have any new software at NAB 2013 that would also be highly disturbing. Reality check is Pro Tools 11 probably would steal SCS's thunder anyways. So, what was the "product announcement" for Sony Creative software yesterday at the Vegas event? I've seen nothing. Except, they did issue a bug fix and update for Sony VEGAS 12 yesterday (Just in time, I have three big edits going on) - but, I haven't seen anything on the level of the Sound Forge for Mac and the Spectral Layers announcements - what did they announce? |

Nothing according to their facebook or twitter account. Why attend a showcase with no new product updates or announcements. And the Vegas update came out before NAB 2013. |

Hmmm... I'm on their mailing list and I got an email/invitation awhile ago for their event at NAB on April 8, and it mentioned "exciting product announcements" for Sony Creative Software... :-( |

Agreed. Acid Pro is a dead software, and has been for quite sometime. Sadly, at this stage, it would not be financially beneficial to release another version of Acid Pro, and Sony's main goal, like every other corporation, is to increase shareholder wealth. At this time, SCS has lost too much market share to competitors who are more active, in DAW product development and customer outreach. As much as I hate to see the lack of support, marketing and love for Acid Pro, there are far better DAW options on the market, at this time, in opinion, from developers who are allowed to communicate more openly with its customer base. Last year, after being a faithful Acid Pro supporter, since version 4, I switched to Presonus' Studio One, and could not be happier. Although I will never purchase another SCS product again, I must admit that I would love to see another Acid Pro version enter the market, but I just do not see it happening at this point. Hopefully, SCS will prove me wrong. |

With no major SCS software announcements at NAB 2013 it begs to ask the question? Why did they even attend? Couldn't their time be better served working in Wisconsin creating new software... Just a thought. |

There is nothing to add anyway. ACID 7 still works fine on win7 and 8 ( I believe ) You could look at it another way; at least Sony is not ripping you off by selling you useless updates which is what all of the DAWs since around 2008 have been. Message last edited on4/11/2013 2:10:30 AM bydeusx. |

Deusx, you just don't get it. I've been waiting YEARS to spend money on a new version of Acid Pro which does all the things I am unable to do in Acid Pro 7, such as... uh... errr... just a sec...I'll think of something... |

Oh come on guys... Let's all be real. The only reason I check back is because in the back of my mind I keep hoping Sony will update Acid Pro at some point. The problem is - they've killed years of time and I am absolutely sure they have killed their user base by not updating the program and keeping up to current standards. I started out using Acid Pro and I genuinely loved the work flow in the program. But... As my workflow has improved and I know what tools I want to use in mixes Acid Pro absolutely can not keep up on the plug in manager side. I use a ridiculous amount of plugins to "Langerize" my songs for lack of a better term. Music is an art and producing great sounding music should be a tapestry that is unlimited. 64 bit plugins and VST 3 are a no go in Acid Pro. But they are here and the present. Acid Pro is great by 2008 standards - no questions asked. But by 2013 standards... the program has been Left Behind. My main goal at this point is to export all my Acid Pro 7 tracks as quickly as possible so I can import them to Reaper - which is similar to Acid Pro in work flow - but does require a learning curve. Sony - if you have intentions of resurrecting Acid Pro - you need to do it quick. Just realize from a user stand point you can never go 4-5 years again without creating its next update - and you have done a terrible job of keeping the user base in the dark about product development. And also... If you are porting this program to the mac and think it will be successful on the mac and leave the PC user base behind... this will be the final nail in the coffin. From a user who works on both PC and MAC daily - I still prefer a PC any day of the week. No plist corrupt files or corrupt project files which MAC is notorious for. Thats my rant. I can understand feeling slightly frustrated at the outcome, but I guess I don't entirely understand. When you bought Acid you bought it for what it does presently. Acid Pro PRESENTLY works on both 32 and 64 bit platforms. It can edit loops ,record audio/midi,house VST effects PRESENTLY. What does it need to do for you that it didn't do when you bought it? 3.5 gigs memory use in 32 bit is a limitation if you're running a movie soundtrack running something like Kontakt and 100 tracks of orchestra, but then that would have been a limitation 5 years ago and you would have bought something more capable of that then right? Most engineers don't use Ableton or Acid if the have a very heavy intensive project running tons of vsts and tracks. Those guys are on pro tools or logic. I look at Acid like a composition looping application that does recording on the side...does it pretty well in fact for the average home studio owner. |

By 2008 standards when the program was made - it works lovely. By 2013 - it's far behind the curve. I don't think you can even buy a 32 bit PC these days from your local retailer. Sure if all it is to do is just be a loop making machine - fine. Maybe they should just discontinue Acid Pro 7 altogether - more so the Acid Pro line and just create current Acid Music Studio versions if they don't have any intention of developing the project any further. Just sucks for me a year ago - at least when there was still hype in the forums and I bought AP7 - hoping for a new 64x upgraded version. There is a lot that I loved about Acid Pro - but I am now very comfortable outside the realm of Acid Pro. I paid the full Pop for it at the top of Feb 2012. It's a bit of a burn to find out that SCS has no intention of updating the program. |

The "future" "expected" for Acid 8 is a debut for mac and pc simultaneously...I suspect. |

I highly doubt that. They didn't do that for Sound Forge when they released the mac version. PC program development has been slow with the exception of Vegas Pro. |

They didn't do that for Sound Forge when they released the mac version. Since SF for Mac was a complete rewrite from scratch - there is no possible way thy could have baked 10 versions worth SF into a 1.0 release for another platform. That project just goes to show you how long and difficult this is - so if they are rewriting ACID to do the same - I would look for a fairly pedestrian 1.0 release of ACID for Mac as well. That said - I still do not see this as "abandoning" the Windows version in any way - I suspect they are going to unify the versions at some point but that will take a lot of time (and resource - which is probably in short supply) - only makes sense to develop new functions for "both" versions and roll em out together. While I've ported most of my current projects over to Studio One, I had one project I thought I would just finish in ACID. It is almost impossible to finish it the way I want to. The biggest limitation is still 32 bit operation. I use EZ drummer and Superior Drummer, and using ACID Pro means using the 32 bit versions of everything. I cannot use Superior Drummer and the EVIL DRUMS sound library without it crashing in ACID Pro - the library is just too large I guess. I cannot use KONTAKT and have large libraries loaded up - it becomes unstable and crashes. So, basically I HAVE to work in another app because all of my VSTi's, my operating system, etc...is all 64-bit, which allows me to take full advantage of my computer's processor and the 8GB of RAM I have installed. I thought I would be able to just finish one project with it, but as long as I want to use my favorite VSTi's, ACID is just an unstable host. Things were different a couple of years ago when I was all 32 bit, but once you make the leap - you have to really upgrade EVERYTHING to get stable workflow. |

ACID is just an unstable host Yep - I ran into the same - and had to resort to simply rendering the Acid stuff to audio stems and then bring those into Studio One. It was the only way to preserve the primary sound bits and move the whole thing to 64 bit. Do remember too that all of the "big" players that we take for granted now (Superior Drummer, Kontakt v5 etc etc) did not exist in 2008 when AP7 was final. No surprise it cannot handle any of these today - especially with large memory requirements. VP |
