Using XP 4.05 on Win98SE / 400mhz Gateway with Ensoniq onboard PCI audio and a new NVidia G Force 2mx video card, 15gig 7200rpm hard drive on primary IDE and a 20gig 5400rpm hard drive on secondary IDE (both drives that I save the file create sputter files.

I've recently started getting/creating sound files with what sounds like sputtering/stuttering randomly placed in the file. I'm converting my old cassette tapes to CDR.

I did get a 'hit' when I searched on sputtering from the KBs on this site. It wasn't very helpful but did suggest that my newly installed NVidia G Force 2mx video card could be causing the problem.

I've got hardware acceleration turned all the way down on the video card.

I fully suspect the video card but am not sure what to do to fix the problem. I don't wanna pull out the new video card.

I also just confirmed that the onboard sound card and the video card are sharing IRQ 11. Could that be a contributing factor to the problem?

Could really use some help.

Thanks for any feedback.

Charlie

I had the occational stuttering problem when working with long/large file spoken word recordings. Shut down all non-essential programs running in the background. ie: virus programs, screensaver, ect. Find out what's running by hitting (three finger salute.)And shut down all non-essential programs.
Also optimize the settings SF recomends in the SF on-line help file, manual or in this forum. Also Defragment and run Scandisk,
