Will you see a VegasPro Version 13? Maybe not after the bad luck of 11 and 12, who wants to see a version labeled "13"?

This is a sign of the time. Adobe knows they have cinched up the pro market tighter than anybody expected. They will now command the show.

As for buying MAC from SCS, please please read the MAC Forge thread again!

The Cloud only rental system Adobe has launched is not something I'll buy into. The rental only model will put a lot of people off - there's already a petition against it. It might turn out like the Win 8 start button with a bit of a back track from Adobe eventually. Especially considering that the software still needs to be downloaded and the 'Cloud' is really being used as a glorified licensing system.

Adobe claims that there has been a huge rush to sign up yet they're heavily discounting this new system. If after a year or two the monthly fee jumps significantly then those who decide to drop out at that point won't be able to use their Adobe software any longer. I just hope Sony don't try the same thing.

A lot of people signed up when they were offering it for 29.95 a month for a year. Remains to be seen what will happen when it's back up to 49.95 a month. Adobe does
let you install on 2 machines.

Avid is really having problems. The latest rumor on Avid, they are looking to sell. I heard a rumor that Avid just laid off another 200 employees. With Adobe moving cloud subscription. SCS need to work on a MAC version. And better 4k tools and stability.

They have a chance right now to move on this!!!

please, i'm not trolling / flaming or the like....

why is there this obsession with getting vegas on a mac?

i might have understood when mac had it's own processor / hardware years ago, but (and i used to run a mac based post house), nowadays they seem vastly overpriced and not terribly well supported.

curious....

ushere,

I share the sentiment about wondering about the obsession of having Vegas on the Mac.

However, I've softened a bit lately due to the difficulty that I'm having getting Quicktime files and Vegas Pro to play nice. My thinking is that if SCS were to work with Apple to have a Mac version of Vegas Pro, then perhaps there would be something they would learn about Apple tech (e.g., Quicktime) that would benefit the Vegas Pro for Windows.

In short, I just want SCS to dedicate more resources to making Vegas Pro work. If that means that try to make a stable cross-platform solution, then I'm all for it. Otherwise, other companies that have taken this approach (e.g., Adobe and DaVinci Resolve) might look even more attractive.

To stop Mac users from saying "Macs don't crash"?

Bob.

That would be funny if it were true, but it's pretty far from it.

Almost every conversation I've ever had with a mac user went something like this:

"I love my mac, it's great, but it's been crashing a lot lately."

"It's a great machine, but it's been freezing daily for a while now, any ideas??"

"It's really good, but it needs to be cleaned up,defragmented, whatever, that's why it's so slow right now"

Granted, some of these conversations happened back before they started using Intel chips, but honestly I've always had a feeling that I've had less crashes in 12 years ( win2K and on ) across all machines and versions of windows than a single average mac in any given week.

I've probably had 4,5 crashes total since I started using win2K about 12 years ago. And I've probably gone through 9,10 machines.

win2k, xp and win7 perfectly stable on good hardware. With Vegas I was able to duplicate one crash somebody posted, so I know of that one bug, but otherwise Vegas has never crashed on any of my machines. We are talking almost all versions since Vegas 2 ( I may have skipped v.6 or v.8, don't remember exactly ).

I hate to say. I have a Mac and HP. Windows on a HP crashes all the time."100-200 within a year running Vegas. My MAC using Vegas in one year time maybe 5 times.

Far as Windows go...I went through over 6 or 7 computers. With Windows always getting that blue screen and virus.

Anyway, most of the PROS are using a MAC. Concerts Production,DJ's and Filmmakers are using a MAC while on location.

Well that's not what these forums are talking about. All I am reading is crashes!!

i rarely ever get a windows crash nowadays (in fact crash free since win 7 64bit) - yes, a vegas crash isn't unheard of though ;-(

i have a number of friends with macs who regularly experience 'delays' that require rebooting, but they NEVER crashes ;-)

I rarely get a crash on my HP DC5800, which is getting a bit dated. I don't post here about my non-crashes, which is why you don't hear about it.

We have an open office plan and have been in production on a feature length doc for a while now, all on Final Cut. I'm not working on it but it's very easy to hear the groan and then the sound of a reboot. It's fairly frequent but not enough to make anyone look for another editing platform. It's still vastly more stable than PPro CS2 + Axio was, and there's not a chance in H E double EL that they'd try to edit anything with Vegas, for a variety of reasons that aren't all necessarily valid, but many of the reasons are.

Well this article shows that times ARE changing and Sony definitely has an opportunity to capture a portion of this market of Lame Steam Media on the fly smart phone journalism.
