Subject:AIFF format

I recently attended a presentation at a high-end audio store and the speaker [person, not device] was playing tracks ripped from an LP that had been saved as AIFF files. Now his turntable was in the $15,000 range and the DAC was in the $4,000 range. Is there any advantage or disadvantage of this format over WAV when working in Sound Forge when the turntable is $500 and the interface is a Tascam US-122 mkII? Or should I stick with the WAV format?

His sounded great whan played back through an $8,000 amp and $10,000 speakers [of course].:-)

Absolutely no quality difference between AIFF and WAV formats.

No advantage at all. It's a simple linear PCM file same as WAV - the sound quality is identical. It's just the iDiot equiv of WAV.

FWIW, another common misconception is BWF (Broadcast Wave Files) sound better than WAVE and AIFF.. Ain't so, (if the sample rate and bit depth are equal) The BWF just contains additional metadata such as a TC stamp, ect.
