Subject:The format of the media file conflicts ???

I receive the following error when I attempt to open a project.
“The format of the media file conflicts with the way it was previously used in the current project. This could be due to the number and type of streams changing”
If I select the “Ignore error and leave media file offline” the project opens.
How can I fix this?
Thanks

Hi, I'm pretty clueless when it comes to Acid, but it seems like some folks have had this message come up if the file is modified by a program outside of acid - maybe a media converter that makes an mp3 of non-standard format.

here's a couple threads that might be worth reading through to give you some ideas of what might be going on:

sorry I can't be of more help tho

Thanks I did run across these links but I still have the issue. I wonder if there is a way to import the project into a new project file.
I appreciate your willingness to respond.

Just another thought (again - keeping in mind that I'm an Acid dummy) is that if you have loops or other audio files you might try rendering them to a new file or clip and reimporting and using those newly created files instead of the old ones. Only reason I mention it is it might clear the media file format conflict issue?

good luck with your problem. I understand how frustrating these things can be. I'm wresting with my machine/software right now. I'm sure it'll eventually sort, but it's slow going for me trying to diagnose and address problems.

Your suggestion worked. Thanks!

It turned out not to be a loop track but that is a logical place to start. I think the problem was caused by me renaming a track but I’m not sure. I Re-Rendered a track that I had renamed and gave it a different name and added it back as a new track and deleted the original.

I’m finding the basic file organization system is kind of quirky.

1 .In a different project I’ve noticed a second project file being created a few times which is confusing. I have to open each project file with the same name to determine which is correct and then delete the incorrect copy. I don’t understand why this extra project file is being created but this may be solved now.

2. I’m starting to build up many autosave files in the Acid Pro folder. One auto save file that writes over itself would make sense but multiple autosave files are confusing. Yes I’m easily confused but I do work with other programs that have sophisticated file systems. Maybe I’ll run across a good training video regarding file organization.

I’m not sure if my project organization method is correct but I create a new project folder for each song and bring in all the Tracks and the Project File into this folder. (???) I found that Acid simply adds all tracks to the same generic project folder and you end with all your tracks from all projects in the same folder which is a big mess to me.

BTW: My experience; Sony offers little to zero tech support for Acid Pro. Is this the way it is with other DAW software? I also found that Focusrite offers zero support for their USB interfaces. Thanks to forums I’ve been able to sort out the common issues but I can’t recommend products that do not provide support.

By default, ACID creates an "ACD-BAK" file every time you save a project, which may lead to confusion if you don't have file extensions turned on in Windows.

Also by default, ACID creates an "autosave" file every five minutes, which is stored in your project folder file (specified under Options > Preferences > Folders). This *can* get unwieldy if ACID does not properly delete these files on exit or ACID crashes.

If you don't want ACID to do any of these options, go to Options > Preferences > General and disable the "create project file backups" and "enable autosave" options, around the middle.

You're on the right track concerning workflow; keep everything contained to a specific project in a specific folder.

You can specifically tell ACID to only save in a specific project's folder by going to Options > Preferences > Folders, use the "use separate defaults" option and specify, "<Project>" for each element under this option.

Make sure the first thing you do is to save the project in its folder *before* doing anything else. From then on, anything you do (like recording) will have its files placed in this project's folder.

ON EDIT: As far as support goes, I've had some slow support from SCS but they did always get back to me. That's nothing compared to nightmares I've had with, say, Native Instruments. It's a "your mileage may vary" situation depending on need.

I really appreciate all the details! Not only did you offer several solutions, you made me feel better about my confusion.

My first two projects started as experiments with no objective. This is one reason I did not create a new project folder at first. After the fact I started to realize that I had a big mix of tracks from different songs and then I created new project folders to separate them. I also had a bunch of tracks that I never intended to save. It didn¡¦t take me long to make a big mess. ƒº

From now on I will start by adding a new folder even when I don¡¦t have a specific song title in mind. I¡¦ll also be changing the settings you mentioned.

Thank You

Iacobus - thanks for the tips. I'll be following your tips from now on also.

I've kindof made a mess of things on my current project. Files are everywhere.

FYI;

15 days after requesting support I received a response from tech support.

The response said is that if they do not hear back within 48 hours they will assume that my issue is resolved.

Thanks again for the help received here on this forum.
