Files opened in SF10 are playing back at around two semitones sharp. I'm sure it is something simple but I can't find a solution anywhere. Thanks for your help Hank |

Other applications are known to hijack your audio drivers and play back at the wrong sample rate (for instance, 48K instead of 44). Make sure any background processes using your sound card are disabled at startup. Don't have another audio application open at the same time as Sound Forge. Thanks for your reply. There are no other apps running. I checked the processes list and found no obvious possibilities for conflict but frankly am not sure what most of those processes are. |

Here are the first steps to troubleshoot: Find the file's sample rate using MediaInfo. Verify that it plays at the correct pitch on VLC. Check your audio driver's default sample rate. Open the file in Sound Forge, check the sample rate on the info bar. Check the driver Preferences in Sound Forge. Play back the file, comparing it to VLC playback. Really, "a couple of semitones" sounds like the difference between 44 and 48K, so that's a place to start. |

Reset my master clock to 44.1 and all is well. I have been using SF since version 5 and my experience has always been it would open and play any file I could throw at it. This tells me there are gaps in my understanding of how all this works. Going to do some learnin'. Thanks for your help. Hank |

Something hijacked your audio drivers. Why they didn't reset the next time you started your machine is worth investigating. Probably little to to directly with SF. |

Now I'm really confused. The problem I was having was not caused by the master clock running my sound cards being set to 48? |

Whether "something" was you, or another program that changed the setting, I'm glad you found it. ;?) Message last edited on5/6/2013 7:27:29 AM bymusicvid10. |

I guess i'm just lucky in that, even though the vast majority of sound cards i've used for playback have been consumer-grade RealTek or SoundBlaster, i've never had this problem. The software tells the card what sample rate to use each and every time a sound is played, and the sound card plays it at that rate. Hmmmmm. Why would any sound card ever do anything different? I just don't understand. |

My Echo Mia card has a sample rate 'Lock' function, but I've never noticed any PB issues one way or another with SF, VP or any other player. That PC is not at this locations so I can't check it out for a few days.. |

I am using a RME sound card linked with a Presonus 8 channel A/D converter via ADAT giving me a total of 16 channels. I don't think any rogue software pushed the hardware button on the Presonus. I haven't used this setup very long. Prior I had an Echo Darla card which, I assume, would adjust for sample rate. It is all becoming clearer to me. |
