Subject:Line Input Unuseable - only on SF-Pro-10

I recently updated from Sound Forge 7 to Sound Forge Pro 10. I typically use the software for audio mastering and transferring my record collection to digital formats. Audio editing of previously made files seems to work fine. However, with SF10 Pro I can no longer record useable audio. Using line input on my Sound Blaster X-Fi Extreme Audio yields extreme noise and distortion, and unusable audio. I know it a Sound Forge software issue because Audacity and Cool Edit Pro 1.2 both continue to work perfectly on this computer (Windows 7/64). Previously, SF7 worked well. So, what's the deal? I need some immediate assistance - or a product refund! |

It could be that you're using the wrong drivers for your system in Sound Forge. What do you have selected? Is it the same as the driver you're using in the other DAWs? Rob. |

SF7 and SF10 can exist and run concurrently; open both, and compare Audio settings.... |

On Cool Edit Pro 1.2 the recording device choices are: Line in SoundBlaster X F iXtr - which works great Digital Audio SPDIF Wave Mapper Microphone on Audacity the recording device choices are: Line In SoundBlaster X-Fi xtreme Audio - which works great Digital Audio SPDIF Primary Sound Capture Driver Microphone On Sound Forge Pro 10 the recording divice choices are: Microsoft Sound Mapper - very low and horribly distorted audio Direct Sound Surround Mapper - no audio at all Windows Classic Wave Driver - horrible distorted audio I have tried every option under these three choices - to no avail. Sound forge 7 allows the selection of "SoundBlaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio." Message last edited on4/30/2013 5:54:04 PM bywdorothy. |

I just migrated to a new PC with Windows 7 64-bit Professional. The system board includes a Realtek system. I am not too happy with it. I don't have the control that I previously had. I am going to install the old Creative Audigy Sound Blaster Value 2 card (not to be confused with the Audigy 2 card w/o the word "Value") and software from my old Windows XP 32-bit system. Everything worked great on XP. I did find a new driver and applicaiton program for Windows 7. I want to be able to record sound from the Internet, Blu Ray player, and cassette player and save to mp3. I am using SF Pro, V 10.0d, Build 506. My concern is if I will have problems like the original poster. Any comments or help would be appreciated. Larry, My old XP system allowed me to record any audio that came out of the computer. Windows 7 removes that ability, for some strange reason. So far, I have only been able to record computer audio with third-party audio streaming-capture software. i don't know if your old sound card will help or not. For me the issue has been Win7 and not the sound card. Hope this helps and good luck. Message last edited on4/30/2013 9:53:26 AM bywdorothy. |

You could try reinstalling the SB driver and/or experimenting with different SF audio device settings. Or record the with SF-7 or Audacity. Save it as wave file, and master in SF-10 the software itself should not affect the sound much. (all other parameters being equal) |

So far, support from Sound Forge has been useless. Newest sound card drivers have been re-installed. Other recording software continues to work flawlessly. SF continues to be useless as an audio recorder. Currently I am not impressed with SF's support. Thus far, I recommend others seriously consider other options if looking for recording software. |

Under Windows Classic Wave Driver, when you go in to select recording devices, do you have the Line In selected? If not, what do you have selected as the recording input? Rob. |

Yes - line in is selected. I have also tried every other possible option out of frustration. |
