i decided to start using my program that i haven't used in 3 years, but i have windows 8 now and the program won't install. it says download service pack 1.1, but that won't work either. i think its a xp service pack. any help to get Acid 5.0 to run on windows 8 would be great thanks.

Acid Pro 5 on Windows 8 - probably not gonna happen for you is my guess. But I could be wrong. That's like circa 2005. As per XP if that is another OS you are running you will need to update to at least SP 2 or SP 3 probably more realistic.
SCS - (SONY) claims that Acid Pro 7 will work on Windows 8 (and for the most part it does) but it was written for XP/Vista - and has never received official Windows 8 status as AP7 was last updated February 2010.
All the best.

You should be able to upgrade to AP 7 if your copy if legit.
Check My Account/Software.

This is not their wrong as you imply, but yours!

Seriously...ACID Pro 5 on Windows 8...at first I thought this post was a belated April fools gag, but it seems like you're actually serious.

ACID Pro 5 came out over 8 years ago.
If you've used it only twice since then, that's your problem.

To run an application on Windows 8 (who would really want to, knowing you can still buy Windows 7 and even PCs with Windows 7 pre-installed) it has to require at least .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 or later, nothing previous to that.

Cheers

And this is somehow Sony's fault?

You bought the new PC - probably should have done your homework on whether your existing software works before pulling the trigger.

SMS is going to tell you to re-read the system requirements for Acid 5 and then tell you to get XP installed if you want to continue.

Even AP7 (The last version from 2008) is not truly certified for Windows 8...

Good luck to you.

I would guess it is asking for the .net framework 1.1 not the XP service pack. You can also try installing from the .msi in the Sony Setup folder that is initially created.

If you try the .msi you can right click and use the compatibility assistant.

I guess this is a mute point, BUT if you had Windows 7, you could have installed the XP Mode (which is free to registered Win 7 users) and still use that program under the Virtual Environment.

Apparently M$ indicated this XP Mode is not compatible with Windows 8. Maybe you can "downgrade" if you really really want to use older software.
