Seems that SCS is sleeping at the wheel.
There is a posted update 1.0.23 in the update section with release notes for April 1st. (it has since been updated)
Seems to be a few fixes.

My reply:
Not good enough for something that should have been in the port to begin with. Had high hopes for SF Mac but that's long gone by the wayside. Sony went completely off the rails with this port. Why do you think people are looking for other programs to use which is too bad. Sony could have made a gold mine when Bias Peak went bye-bye but it dropped the ball big time.

Jack

PS: so what was so wrong with the word s t u p i d ? Since when did that become a bad word? Or can't Sony take the heat for it's mistakes?

Nice professional response, Peter. Sony should truly be ashamed of itself. I will definitely never buy anything Sony again after this experience and I am sure many others feel the same way. I have told every professional audio person I know to steer clear of this product.

I don't understand what is unprofessional in my response.

We are aware of what has been requested. We have never announced when new features will be made available.

We are not ashamed of our product. I know that some think we should be, but we are not. We are also not complacent or satisfied.

My reply:
These are not NEW features - the things being asked for were in SF Win and should have been in the release version of SF Mac.

For Sony not to be ashamed of SF Mac shows Sony doesn't care about what it customers want and expect. It also shows a less-than able software development team. Sony had plenty of time to do the work to truly bring us a Soundforge on the Mac that rivaled anything Sony did on the Windows platform. Sadly that didn't happen and shows no possibility of it ever happening.

I am sorry you feel this way.

As I have stated before, I offer no excuses. I also do not apologize for the product and efforts that we have put forward. The teams are dedicated to the customers of our products as well as the product itself. We are passionate about doing the right things. We are never statisfied until our customers are. We work constantly to achieve the best solutions possible.

I assure you that we do have very able and quailified developers. (With all humility, as I am a developer on the team.) I work with a very talented and experienced group of people, all of whom are both skilled and passionate about the products we develop and meeting the needs and expectations of our customers. I also believe that we are moving in the right direction and customer expectations and needs are of the utmost concern. We are not standing still or complacent.

I understand that you and others are only interested in the final results. So are we. Continue to take us to task, as it is what drives us to do the right things.

Peter

Peter:
About what I expected from someone toeing the Sony company line. Also shows Sony really doesn't have clue 1 about what it's customers want. If this is Sony moving in the right direction as you state then you, I and other end users have a different view of what direction that is.

Jack,

Of course I believe in what we are doing. I would not be here if I didn't. If that is toeing the Sony line, I am happily guilty.

I understand that you would not purchase a license of Forge for Mac becuase it is not equivalent feature for feature to Forge for Windows. You made a choice on your needs, which is always the right thing to do.

I hope that you will evaluate it again when updates are made.

Peter

It may be too late for this, but can everybody calm the heck down? Sweet Jimminy Christmas, what is all of this complaining going to accomplish? The devs know they've got a lot of work to do to make SF for Mac comparable to SF for Win. At this point, it isn't. So, don't make the switch. People keep calling this a port, which it isn't. From what I understand, it is a complete re-write for OSX. So, all of that development that SF for Windows underwent is now underway for the Mac version. Implementation will take time. The good news is there shouldn't be too much of the basic logic to figure out, now the issue will be implementing it for the Mac platform in a quick but also stable manner. Do I wish SF for Mac would've come out as fully featured as SF for Win? Absolutely, I've made my disappointment known pretty publicly in these forums. So, what am I doing? Waiting and testing out new updates as they come out. When the Mac version is ready for my workflow, I'll consider switching over. Until then, I'll stay with my perfectly functional Windows version. It's not like they left you without a better option. Nobody is forcing you to use the Mac version.

The real point is, these are user forums. Peter is really the only Sony employee that I've seen in here and he is usually extremely helpful when people have problems that actually need solving. He listens to the complaints too, but there isn't much he can do about those I would imagine. So, he volunteers to respond to having his work trashed (or he drew the short straw, I'm not sure). The work doesn't need defending. There's nothing remotely like SF available for the Mac, IMO. So, we're all going to have to be patient it seems. You should be at least slightly calmed by the fact that someone from Sony has heard your complaint and I'm sure the entire team knows they've got a lot of work to do and they'd better get it done as quickly as they can or risk losing a lot of business.

If you don't like what they did, I agree with you. Your complaint is noted. Now, protest by not spending your money on the Mac version. Otherwise, nothing Peter has done in this particular thread is unprofessional. He's been straightforward. When will the functionality be implemented? When it's ready. That's the obvious answer. Would you rather they slop some features into a build and then have it not work correctly? That's not how good dev works, and you wouldn't want broken features anyway.

I'm not trying to flame you, I'm just saying, cut the devs some slack. If you don't like the product, don't buy it.

Rob.

Honestly Sound Forge people

Be happy you are getting any updates to your software. I own SF Pro 10 and Acid Pro 7. The users in the land of AP 7 have way more to complain about that you over here at SF Pro Mac. Try a product that hasn't been updated since February 2010 and SCS has shown no indication it plans on ever updating Acid Pro. Mum is the word on Acid Pro. It has forced a lot of us to buy other DAW's... There were a lot of great features in AP 7 but it been left behind in the dust of their competitors especially on the 64x factor and the lack of plugin capacity.

All indicators seem to point in the direction of SCS developing for the MAC and not for PC - with the exception of Vegas Pro.

I have both the Mac version and the Windows version. I bought the Mac version hoping it would solve having to jump between platforms because SF for Windows is a brilliant product that I have used since about version 7. Version 10 was a bit of a disappointment and I prefer working with V9 BUT I really wanted Sound Forge Mac to be at least as good.

Yes I tried it and yes I wasn't impressed, but I wanted to make sure that I was in on the ground floor so Sony would see the market. But, after however long it has been since launch, there have been no improvements and I still use the Windows version out of preference.

Here's a challenge - if Sony could make Sound Forge Mac as good as SF9 with a comprehensive set of processors and workflow, I'd pay 150 GBP to upgrade.

So, pretty please Sony, do something about the product so I can use it as regularly (which is more or less every day) as I use SF9 or 10.

There have been three or four maintenance updates. Mostly bug fixes, but each included minor enhancements (the last one included custom keyboard shortcuts). So it's not as if the project has been idle since release.

Also, the more specific you are about what you want in SFPM, the more likely it will gain traction. 'As good as SF9' isn't a lot to go on. What exactly is missing (for you) from SFPM?

OK - many of the processes & FXs that I'm used to and FXs aren't built in. For example, I use Graphic Dynamics almost every day and the ability to redraw that curve how and where I want saves me a lot of time. The Channel converter is not intuitive (for me anyway). I do batch processing so would like that under the hood.

Now I know I can probably bend it to do what I'd like and install other plugins to make up for things that came with the package on SF for Windows, but I'd quite like a Sound Forge product to maintain the look and feel and functionality that its Windows cousins have consistently delivered. You may find that SF Mac works fine for you - all I'm saying is that it doesn't do it for me because it doesn't foloow through on the legacy experience. Basically I use SF for forensic editing before I do production on the audio in Pro Tools. That works for me, but it would work better if I had it all on a single platform. At the moment I use SF9 or 10 under Parallels and that's a better working solution for me than SF Mac - but it's not what I want to do.

I know it's a pipe dream but I'd also quite like my Euphonix/Avid controlers to work with it too.

I've got used to the locked down file dock now (I prefered it floating so I could work more flexibly on several audio files at once), so it's not all bad. It's just not got enough to be my editor of preference and with the legacy the product brings it shouldn't be putting off loyal customers/users who've been using SF for years like me.
