Subject:L & R Sound Files

For the life of me I can't figure out how to open L(eft) & R(ight) sound files simultaneously, such that I can edit both files at the same time (as if it were stereo). What am I missing here? I know you used to be able to do this in Windows.

Anyone's help in this regard is greatly appreciated.

There's no option to do it automatically from the Open dialog. It's still possible to do it manually, of course.

Personally, I never got much use out of the Open option in the Windows version. Do you do this a lot?

Yes, I do, actually. What do you mean by manually?

Manually = Create a new stereo file and paste each channel into it. Here's one way.

1) Open L, change Channels to stereo in the File Properties
2) Open R, Select All (Cmd+A), Copy (Cmd+C), Close R
3) Select the entire bottom channel of L (Cmd+A, then Tab once) and Paste (Cmd+V)
4) Remember to Save As... lest you accidentally overwrite L.

Wow! What a convoluted mess for something so simple. This was so easy in Peak.

Everything is tedious if you cookbook out every single step.

Again, there are several ways to paste or replace channels depending on how you've configured the UI. Here's another, create a new file and Cmd+drag each mono file from the media browser.

More to the point, how would you expect or prefer to do it?

I suppose it would be nice to have the file/open dialog allow the selection of two files, and then prompt to "open as stereo pair". Or indeed now that Sound Forge is multichannel, select as many files as desired and have them all open as subsequent channels.

On the other hand, i run across this situation so incredibly rarely that by the time i remembered the feature existed, i already would have used the copy/paste method and been done with it.
