Subject:Can I cycle record over the same loop region?

HI all, I think I remember doing this many years back, but can't figure this out. I'm in Acid pro 7 right now. I'm wanting to set a loop region (looping is "on") - say an 8 bar loop region - and while recording jam over the top several times through - let's say 3 times - and then be able to go back and use the 2nd take if I need to. I say this because it's tough to stop right at the end of the loop (I'm a guitarist and I can't reach the keyboard fast enough while playing), and sometimes loops need sustain carried over to sound right, esp if using delay. When I try to do this now it seems like it deletes anything I record immediately when the cursor reaches the end of the loop region. I can't see any level of undo that takes me back to the previous cycle through the loop. It seems like it's all gone. So essentially - is the first and second cycle through the loop gone once it begins the 3rd cycle? IF not, where can I find takes 1 and 2? Thank you, again - I think I've done this before, but can't seem to figure it out now, and I can't manage a proper web search to bring up a discussion. If I'm approaching this wrong, how would you "properly" go about jamming over a loop section and trying various loops and have ability to go back and get the one you like best? thank you. |

All, please ignore.. I found the clip pool. Can I easily convert these to paintable loops now - or do I need to go to sound forge? thanks, edit: I also have a clip that I can hear in the clip pool, but when I select it in the little clip dropdown and try to put it on the track there's no audio there. I can hear it in the clip pool, but when put on the track playback surface there's no sound, no waveform showing. I'm assuming not normal, but is there a trick? In order: -Nobody is perfect, so expect to have some detritus when recording. You can definitely expect to not finish a clip exactly where you'd like it to end. Play a little bit before and after too for consistency. -You can cycle forward through clips on the timeline by selecting a clip and pressing C on your keyboard; you can cycle backward through clips by pressing Shift + C. You can also press Ctrl + Shift + I (that's an I as in India) to turn on event/clip labels to make it a little easier to identify clips as you cycle through them. -Whatever clip is active will be drawn or painted (respectively with the draw tool or the paint tool). You can tell this by looking at the track listing (provided enough info is exposed vertically) or by looking at the Clip Pool window (the pencil icon next to the clip name indicates it's active). What's probably happening is you don't have the intended clip active. -In the Clip Pool window, simply select the clip you want to save and then click the button with the diskette on it, 3rd button from the left. |
