Move License to New PC

This is actually a general question about ALL of my Sony Creative Software, not just Vegas.

I am about to replace my audio workstation PC with a newer one. What do I need to do to move all of my Sony Creative Software (Vegas Pro, Acid, Sound Forge, etc.) to my new PC? Can I re-download the software from the web site and install it on the new PC? How do I transfer the licenses over?

No reason to post a link to another thread when the words "Just install them on your new machine" is much faster.

TheHappyFriar has it. I would add that Sony software actually makes this easier than most software that I work with.

I've had computers crash or die, in addition to just plain replacing some. Adobe software has always been a pain for me because I would have to contact them in some cases to get them deactivate a computer that I no longer had. It took several weeks for Boris FX to finally work out how to (re)activate my license on a new machine.

But, Sony software is so convenient in this regard, with them even maintaining the serial numbers and providing a convenient download location on their support site for all of my registered software.

I've seen on the forum where some times people complain they need to contact Sony to make the activation work (to many installs, stuff like that). I have never personally experienced it. I've reinstalled Vegas 8 so many times it was crazy, but never had it denied. Vegas 10 I've installed ~5 times total with no issues.

Just to be safe, install during 9-5 central time. :)

Apple does it right. With iTunes they give you the ability to disable all licenses from your on-line account in case you can't get to a computer. While this is an all or nothing solution, it is a solution that always works and always keeps the customer in control. I wish more companies would follow this method.

IMHO, all of these activation checks are an insult to the customer who buys your software and a reward to pirates that remove such draconian checks from their versions and don't have to deal with them. It does nothing to protect your sales except hurt them because I won't purchase software that uses certain copy protection because it's too intrusive.

I have with ACID Pro 7.0 which is so old, it's been on too many of my hard drives apparently. It was not fun trying to get the counter reset which happened on a weekend and took several days to restore! Like I said, activation only pisses off paying customers.
