Vegas Pro 12 build 486 255 thumbnails problem.

There were reports that cleaning thumbnails folder (C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Local\Sony\Vegas Pro\12.0\Media Pool Thumbnails - Administrator is your user name) prevents Vegas from stop responding - I found out that it happens when number of files in the folder reaches 255. When you scroll media window in project, Vegas generates this files, so if you have big project at some moment you will reach the number. If you already have, say 250 files there, you also can't import additional 6 media files to the project. Work around is simple - to clean periodically this folder - it doesn't affect open instance of Vegas. Also I noticed that in long project after some moment audio wavefronts in audio tracks start to appear as straight lines - but peak files exist for all events. May be this is also related to the thumbnails issue. I would like somebody to recreate this, also I am thinking about to write simple program which will clean the folder automatically.

I recreated a VP12 crash with thumbnails on my slideshow project. the crash has never happened to me. I just recreated the bug situation after someone told be to clear the thumbnail cache folder hoping that would fix some other problems I was having.

Vegas is keeping a cache of at most 255 recently displayed thumbnails and as you scroll in the media window they create new thumbnails and when they hit their limit, some items need to be deleted to make room for new ones. This is their bug. Managing the boundary condition at the cache limit size of 255.

It does not matter how many items are in your project media pool. I have way more than 255. It matters how many have been displayed in the project media window recently.

I JUST ran into this about an hour ago and have been pulling my hair out. There were exactly 255 files in my folder. I'm able to edit again after deleting contents.

Not being able to see audio peaks (just the flat line) 50 minutes into an hour + program is also driving me crazy. Looking forward to a new build to fix this (so they said in my support request for this issue.)

Thanks for the information.

David,

Go back to build 394 for the time being, unless you need the new features in build 486.

I'm editing a mix of P2 and XDCAM Disc, and started in VP12 (need 486 for P2 time code) just to eventually use the color match - colors from four different cameras are all over the place. I can copy/paste to VP11 and Raylight Ultra if I get stuck.

I do like the glowing clips of VP12 when I put them on the timeline. I missed that when I opened a project in VP11 the other day.

It is worth noting, that I have noticed that Vegas 486 does indeed freeze for me every time I go to thumbnail view in the project media window (I have not tried cleaning out the thumbnail folder).

Initially, I just did a workaround of using only list view in my project media window.

Now, I reverted to build 394 and am able to open the exact same projects, and go to thumbnail view without any freezing.

Indeed, it is a problem with build 486. I'll stick to 394.

Nearly 100 builds later and they actually ADDED a fault. If this software weren't so damn intuitive and fun to edit with I would have switched years ago. But even with all the awful crash hangovers, Vegas is a needle I can't stop sticking in my editing veins.
