i'm feeling quite jilted since Bias ceased and now i can't use peak 7 on my recent upgrade from a mac pro 1,1 to 4,1 (the bias authorization server was decommissioned). after checking out some alternatives, i'm settling on SF for mac because I used to use Sound Forge when i was on PC. i really like the look and getting around in SF for mac and those are the most important things to me.

my main concern is - could i get stung again if i take the plunge with SF for mac? will there be any love for those who got on board at 1.0 or will updates eventually add features similar to 10 with incremental cost over time? is there chance that 1.0 will not take off (and hence get TLC) like SF for windows had? appreciate any info/feedback that moderators can offer...

They shut down the authorization server? They were supposed to keep that up for quite a while after Bias shut down their other operations.

As to SF mac - I'd hold off and see if Sony will add the missing stuff that was in SF Win 10/9 that people have been asking about since SF Mac's release. Given Sony's lack of response to fixing other programs and they're typical answer here of 'it will be added/fixed in an update' and said updates haven't been coming don't waste your money here.

If you need something quick for just 30 days Adobe has a fully functioning program called Audition that works Mac and Win and is 64 bit to boot. $332 to purchase which is $70 more than SF Mac but it's a mature product. You do need an Adobe ID but that's free; no dongle needed. Might be worth your time to download and try it out to see if it does what you need and then make your decision. Shame there's no demo version of SF Mac.

PS: I do love SF Win (have 6 through 9) but SF Mac is a major disappointment.

If you run Mac then you should be well-accustomed to being stung....

No demo? Untrue. See http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/download/trials/soundforgepromac

No updates? See Post #1. IIRC, that was the third update. Though I admit there has been a bit of a lull since.

I replied:
Never had problems with any of my Mac stuff and getting 'stung' as you say. Statements like that only come from the myopic pc users. Some like and get along with Macs, some don't, and I usually find that those in the latter camp have never given a Mac a fair shake (and I'm not talking about fiddling with one in Best Buy).

I'd sooner give up my first born male child (if I had any) than go back to a Windoze machine (but that's just me and other happy Mac users).

Those same kind of statements come from Mac fanboys as well.
Don't kid yourself.
I work in both platforms on a day to day basis. Windows 7 + 8 at home and
OSX 10.8.2 at work.
Mac has some goofy crashes and corrupting of files that happens on a regular basis.
In my experience - I've had less issues on PC (with the exception of Reaper and Windows 8) than I've had on Mac. Corrupt project files, corrupt .plists - absolutely ridiculous on a 2011 iMac. The fact that whenever mac updates its software - programs that aren't current - even within a year and a half to two years are no longer useable/compatible on the current OS - that's ridiculous.
Work with what suits you best. It's all about work flow and both apple and microsoft need to get that right for their customers.
Mac or PC - they both have issues.

519tbarr et al:
The thing most people don't realize you don't always have to be on the bleeding edge with the latest/greatest software versions. Git a stable system - why update the OS? Why update your programs unless you need some new-fangled function? If I have a stable system I don't update OSX. 10.8.2 has been stable since day one (it's what came on my mid 2011 iMac) and that's where it stays. And Apple doesn't update it's software nowhere as often as Microsnot does. There's only one version of Mountain Lion, not several like Windoze.

Same with Pro Tools. Got a stable system and that's the way it's staying. Have yet to get a corrupt file. Then again I turn off most of the extra crud Apple has like Time Machine, Spotlight, screen savers, system and disk sleeping, etc. The only problems I have are user caused problems because I asked PT to do something it can't do.

No problems with my 2008 Mac Pro either.
