New Software Speculation

Editguy43 wrote on 3/13/2013, 6:20 PM
I just recieved an invite to the big Sony NAB bash, and it mentions something (although vauge) about a BIG announcement of some NEW software coming.

Just thinking outloud but what could it be, Vegas for MAC, a more stable version of 12, new Vegas 13 (ohhh unlucky) maybe 14 ;-) smartsound for Vegas.. Lets roll the dice and see what comes up...

or Corel acquired by SCS?

The fact that Sound Forge has shown up on the Mac, Spectra Layers is on the Mac, seems to indicate to me an interest in porting to the Mac. Vegas and/or ACID are obvious next steps.

A Mac Vegas would be a version 12 based thing I think and a next version for the PC Vegas might be a longer upgrade interval than previous given the Mac porting effort.

God save us all from Pinnacle!

God save us and SCS from SCS trying to port anything to OSX.

SF for Mac seems even less stable and more bug riddled than Vegas.

In case readers are not aware, Corel recently helped Avid out of some of its problems by taking over Pinnacle.

new, improved OMO, washes whiter than white.....

i'd be happy with an announcement that '12 runs as it's supposed to!'

enough with the one step forward, two back routine.

I'm fully confident that it will be an announcement that no more features are slated to be added until stability for VP 12 (and New Blue titler) is universal. Additionally, Sony are committed to publishing a comprehensive list of video cards & drivers from all manufacturers that are ideally suited to utilising GPU processing and that a deal has been struck for all loyal Vegas users to provide the Isotope sound plugins free to all. (Tongue firmly in cheek).

Any votes for this option?

I for one would like to see an OSX version of Vegas Pro for a variety of reasons...

1) This would expand the customer base of VVPro which will hopefully extend the lifetime of VVPro for both Win & Mac users... I know a lot of people who edit in FCP 7, were not happy with either FCP X or PPro and are looking into Vegas. The big turn-off is having to boot into Windows when most of their apps are OSX...

2) We have not upgraded our main editing workstation (6-core 980X) in over 3 years. We are considering buying a new 16-core Mac Pro with USB 3.0 & Thunderbolt technology when they are released later this year. Having VVPro, FCP & CS6 all running side-by-side would solve some logistics for us... I like the idea of rendering-out ProRes 422 & HQ files directly from Vegas vs. having to send intermed. files across the network to our aging 4-core Mac Pro...

3) VVPro MAY have greater stability in OSX because SCS can target the specific hardware & drivers Apple OSX machines use. The Mac Pro workstations are pricey, but Xeon & registered RAM stability are hard to beat. At our studio time=money & money=time. If our Mac Pro fails, it's easy for us to find an identical replacement, load a recent hard drive image, and be back in business in short order. With our custom-built PCs, it takes a while to find the exact parts so we typically re-build it from the ground-up with newer hardware. This kills a weekend and fortunately I have not had to do it with our ASUS P6T6 based workstations...
