Capture software Nero?

I have troubles capturing with VMS platinum 12 64bit....I capture the scenes on a external drive. .It works fine and all the sudden it freezes.... I have to reboot and reconnect the camera, open VMS 12... and all is well. But when I start again capturing after closing the program, disconnect the camera etc..... it freezes again..... so reboot again.....all is well... etc etc etc..... I am a bit discouraged by it.... SO.....I am asking the experts out there... is there a better capturing program? Nero 12 platinum ? Or???
I run W7, 64bit.

Depends on what you're capturing, of course.

WinDV is an excellent free program for capturing miniDV.

HDV Split is a free program for capturing HDV.

Both produce video that edits perfectly in Movie Studio.

But, before you get too discouraged, have you gone to your Device Manager and set your FireWire driver to Legacy? That often fixes everything in Windows 7.

Your capture problems with firewire - have to do with the performance of firewire - search the term "firewire" in this forum.

I successfully installed Driver to Legacy..... I will check tomorrow ......
By the way I am capturing, mini Digital HD Video 85mn cassettes.
The split scene is not what I expected either... it leaves a sound gap at the end of the splits.... maybe that will be fixed with the Legacy driver.....

After capturing 8 cassettes.... I must say HDVSplit. and Legacy... are the answers.... no more problems..... ...Thanks for the support..... Happy again....
