I have sound forge 5, I am working on a oral history tape that was made in 1973 as you can imagine there is a lot of tape hiss and the volume level is not so good, what steps and in what order could I bring this tape back to life and then burn a copy on CD, I know Sonic has the NR plug in but I can't afford that right now, any help would be appreciated, thank you-Ronnie |

Ronnie: I'm not an expert and I'm sure someone will have a better suggestion. Too bad you don't have the NR plugins. You might try this - take a sample of the hiss where there is no program material. Click Tools/Spectrum analysis and see where the tape hiss energy peaks in frequency. Try a semi-broad filter setting, paragraphic equalization, at that range of frequencies to reduce the hiss. |
