I'm new at home recording and I'm not quite sure what I'm doing.. I tried plugging my guitar directly into the computer, but I want my amp sound. I plug into my amp and then plug the amp into the computer but it gives me terrible background "noise". Even plugging directly into the computer gives me a small amount of hissing but the amp makes it really bad. Anyways, I'm sure theres enough people out there who know how to do this. I just want to lay down a rythem track and then put some lead on it.

What kind of amp are you using? You will need a direct box to record directly. The Line6 POD is FABULOUS for this!

It would be best to mic the amp otherwise. You are going to get a lot of overdrive sound.

A guitar amp only sounds like a guitar amp if you record the amp itself with a microphone. Otherwise, the Live6 POD suggestion is a good one. It also models the sound of the speaker. Half of the sound of your amp is the speaker.
