Vegas pro 12 mp4 files

cal79 wrote on 2/11/2013, 6:51 AM
Maybe someone can help me out, I can't edit any mp4 files from youtube and vimeo in the latest build of vegas pro 12,

I'm trying to cut my showreel together but importing any of these files causes V12 to hang then crash.. even tried converting the files to avi.. still hangs and crashes.

Vegas Pro 11 handles the same files fine.. Is anyone else having this problem? whats your workflow?

Not that this directly addresses your Vegas issue, but if you're putting together your showreel why are you using clips from online rather than using the original footage?

Hi Chienworks, I do freelance steadicam work so some of the files I'm using are coming from third party production houses.. they send me direct vimeo links to work i've shot for them.

Here's something I find weird, I can add the file using explorer within V12, but the second I move across to my project media window vegas hangs and crashes.. can anyone else confirm this issue?

If anyone would like to test this for me on their Vegas pro 12 system here's an mp4 file https://vimeo.com/50051287#

I've downloaded the HD file and have dragged it onto the Vegas Pro 12 timeline. It plays without problem on my system.

Hi dcrandall,

Thanks for testing that for me, what build of V12 are you on?

Any ideas what could be going on with my system, V11 handles the files with no problem.. i'm only having the issue in vegas pro 12

I'm on Build 486 (latest version)
I don't have any definite thoughts on why the file doesn't work with V12 on your system. Perhaps a codec conflict?

This happened to me with SV11. Go to mp4 render, customize template and under the encode dropdown menu, change to "render cpu only."

Hi Somerset,

It's not a render issue, more of an incompatibility issue, when I put mp4 files form vimeo or youtube onto the timeline vegas hangs

Try running through AVIDemux before you open in Vegas.
What is your Quicktime version? If 7.7.x, try rolling back.

Hi musicvid,

Thanks for sharing your knowledge on this.. I can confirm that by rolling back my quicktime it solved the issue, I did have to suffer loosing my quicktime pro in the process, but it worked. whats strange is how a newer version of quicktime runs smoothly in V11 but not in V12..
