Subject:Dolby Digital 5.1 on VCDs

Ok, here's my situation:

I've been looking into putting Dolby Digital 5.1 in my movies, and I found SoftEncode, and my DVD player recognizes the audio as DD 5.1 when it's on an audio CD, but now I'm stuck about how to put this DD5.1 audio onto a a VCD for me to play.

I tried simply converting it to a VCD MPEG, but my DVD player didn't recognize the audio as Dolby Digital, and didn't decode it, so I didn't get the sound.

So does anyone know how to do this? Is it even possible?

Dear Friend;
You can not convert an encoded soundtrack to MPEG.
You will find more technical details on DVD Studio Pro manual from Apple.
My question is: What kind of format did you use to encode a project in "Soft Encode", which could recorded on an audio CD and decode by your DVD player?
Could you please tell me your step by step method for encoding DD 5.1 Soundtrack and making an audio CD that would be decode on DVD player?

You can use (supposedly, seeing is believing with me and I still need to try it) CD Architech to burn the .ac3 files on a CD. I think I might try (not enough hours in the day for these great toys!) to burn it using CD Architech and Soft Encode to see if it works. Has anyone else tried that combo? Later...

I found a way if you have windows xp home or pro. Here goes. This works with what I have listed below.

Soft Encode 1.0
Apex AD-1500
Standard Windows XP compliant cd-r(w) drive

I did the following below.

I opened my wav file in soft encode and encoded it as an ac3 file. Then in Windows XP I right-clicked on the newly created ac3 file and selected send to...cd drive (?). It copied the files to a temperary location and then told you that there are files waiting to be written to cd. You click on the balloon that say files are waiting to be written to the cd drive and it brings up another windows where you just click on your file(s) and select write to cd from the left pane window. With my dvd player it read the disc just like it did for my created mp3 cds. So I'm thinking if you have an mp3 capable dvd player you would burn the ac3 files itself to a blank cd just as if you would if you were creating an mp3 cd. Hope this helps. Sorry I explained in so much detail but there's no way for me to tell if this is a newbie or if this person just started or starting to use windows xp for the first time. I do not intend to offend anyone in any way with the detail.
