I've left the community for quite some time now; about 7 years. Stopped using Acid because I went on to production and remixing using Reason, and Pro Tools HD. I recently got back into Deejaying (live) and was using the Numak NS6, sold it this past summer (summer 2012) and now own the Pioneer DDJ-SX monster DJ controller and use it with Serato DJ (midi controller version of Serato Scratch Live) There are no mixtape solutions; I have to do everything in one take and after replaying my mix I want to change an effect; pan, adjust volume, eq, sometimes even an entire song and I can't do it. This led me back to Acid Pro, I upgraded yesterday to 7.0 from 6.0 for 84.00. I can't tell you what a breath of fresh air it is to create mixtapes using acid pro. The level of control over every aspect of the mix is nothing short of amazing; being able to use tempo rolls/changes, Slicing up segments to mash things up a bit using simple key commands. And the ability to go back now to this project and keep the hot songs and replace the weaker songs with new hot songs for my podcasts and satellite radio show. Please Save Acid Pro. I would love to be able to use my Pioneer DDJ-SX hardware along with Serato DJ and be able to record a live mix in Serato DJ and have it saved as .acd project file where I can open it up and see each song on a separate track with envelopes for each crossfade/mix, effects (they use izotope effects) there is a similar feature but only for Scratch live users (the ones who use turntables and the scratch live sound card interface) and it has been poorly supported. I've used Ableton Live; I don't like it as a DAW nor do I like it to create remixes/mixtapes/mashups all because of their warping technique. I prefer Acid Pro's beatmapping; it's non complex and simple. Once I have a track beatmapped in acid I use a 16th note grid, 32nd note grid etc to create stutters, re-order kicks and snares etc add effects. The workflow just makes more sense. All you have to do is take Abletons concepts and keep them acid like. I would faint being able to trigger or retrigger segments of my audio file at will with acid precision. Acid works the way that my brain works. 9 times out of 10 I can use the same command in sound forge or acid or vegas or pro tools to split an audio file or copy and paste quickly. Another thing to look at are dj friendly vst's and build upon that too; look at the Ms Pinky Vst plug in. The Max for live version allows for triggering a cell/clip and then being able to scratch that cell/clip with a turntable or midi jog wheel. The vst plug-in you have to load a file create cue points etc... it's a little cumbersome but still works well. They haven't seem to do much work on the vst portion of ms pinky, perhaps you can buy it from them and make it exclusive to acid? here is a link to Ms Pinky vst http://mspinky.com/software/vst_plugin/ Randomization/some other form of control for slices/chops in acid would be nice. Something like this would be amazing for Acid. Here are some example of max devices that do such a thing http://maxforlive.com/library/index.php?by=any&q=buffer+shuffler Max for live is a programming environment that has expanded the possibilites for instruments/effects etc for ableton live; Max is actually an object oriented programming (open source) environment; so Sony can make a Max for Acid for Acid specific instruments/efx/tools. Here is the link to cycling 74 max http://cycling74.com/whatismax/ I hope my plea reaches someones ears and that the above links will prompt a serious look at saving acid and upgrading it and keeping all of the Dj friendly features that made it a hit when I first bought it at 1.0 Respectfully Dave The One Mendez www.soundcloud.com/davetheonemendez (90 percent of all the tracks on my page were given the acid glitch edit treatment) https://soundcloud.com/davetheonemendez/like-i-love-you-super-edit-mix (proudly made with acid) https://soundcloud.com/davetheonemendez/dave-the-one-meets-the-latin (proudly made with acid) Please Save Acid Pro |

I second the motion - Please Save Acid Pro. The motion now moves to the floor... ***Waiting for SCS to vote....*** ***Silence*** Namm will be here in no time. If they were ever going to do something with Acid Pro, now is long overdue time to do something. We should all know something in a matter of weeks. In February it will have been 3 years without updating the current Version of Acid Pro 7. And Acid Pro 7 was originally released in the fall of 2008. Time will tell... The discounted price of Acid Pro 7 is not encouraging to those who paid full pop for the program. |

Hmm...wouldn;t hold my breath waiting for Sony to make some earth shattering announcement at NAMM. Traditionally Vegas gets it's big push at AES but Forge and especially Acid tended to just "show up" with little warning as far as major versions were concerned. I would be very surprised if anything Acid related came out of NAMM. Stunned actually. VP |

I love Acid Pro and still do, but after trying Acid Pro 6.0 it was a CPU hog for my old PC, so i moved back to the simple Acid Pro 3.0 which has everything I need for the audio side (I use a Mac and don't need Acid and VST's) Having started DJing again, I used the beatmapper to beatmap some full tracks, and I do love Acid's simplicity. However after beatmapping some straight 140bpm tracks, with accuracy, after playing out, they were drifiting live in the mix! I have been told that Acid is dead and its time to move on, and reluctantly I have moved over to Reaper (a brilliant Acid clone but with much more features) and Ableton Live. After mastering warping in LIVE, all of my Acid tracks were indeed 'off" and needed tightening up by quite a bit! just milliseconds off, but Live did it perfectly. So after doing everything in Acid, I am a little reluctant to carry on with it, even though I like it, due to this. I must admit Ableton has overtook it in leaps and bounds, even though Acid was the pioneer in 1998 when i started with Acid Pro 2.0 I also don't hold out much hope for its continuation. |

ACID was the the DAW that always made the most sense to me. I've been using since ACID 2.0. Last year I switched to PreSonus Studio One Pro and I have tried NOT to look back, but I keep opening ACID and I want to get started on a new project...but can't. With all of my plugins and VST's at this point upgraded to 64 bit versions, and my OS at 64 bit, and my 8GB's of RAM, ACID is just a memory for me. Sony has seen fit to allow it to be discontinued (according to most major retailers) so, I had to move on if I wanted to actually DO anything that didn't involve loops. I have no idea why Sony discontinued ACID, but they did. ACID Pro is dead, long live ACID Pro! |

I noticed in Sony's last newsletter they said they are going to be at NAMM. I know we try hard to not invest too much attention to that but NAMM is still a major platform for new product announcements. Come on Sony...be brave and say something about Acid! Even that you sold to another company who will run with it. |

I agree whole heartedly with the last comment. Say something. Stop ignoring those who paid into the platform. Tell us Acid Pro is dead but it lives on in budget Studio Versions. Or come out the gate - fires blazing...do anything like Sound Forge for the mac And the platform will be officially dead. Say something... Then again silence is all... |

For what it's worth. I don't know what to add really ........ I read the various posts such as this as everyone else has. We keep our fingers crossed for the next trade show and that's the best we can do I guess. I am 100 percent with you and all who would like to see a continuation of Acid Pro whether a Sony release or sold and developed elsewhere. Personally I would be happy with a simple upgrade to the next letter of the alphabet 7.0f adding midi in to effects and the newer version .dlls found in Music Studio 9. One thing I noticed with Studio 9 was that Acid Pro 7 and Music Studio 9 projects could infact be saved and loaded between the two no problem. For instance I could load an AP7 project in MS9. Save it and reopen back in AP7. Obviouslly there are features in Pro which are not in Studio so it's not 100 percent but I would assume they have everything they need at SCS to at the very least release some sort of Pro 7.0 __ update. It doesn't have to be a full blown reworking and those of us who have systems running XP might think twice before wishing for an upgrade as MS9 is not XP compatible. I did btw have excellent results in Win 8 with AP7 so keep trying if your having trouble. Double check your compatibility and maybe Run As Admin. I do not however like Win 8 (yet) so 7 here, no complaints. Well thanks for posting. Keeping an eye on NAMM. Guess well see. |

I would believe if they have not made any announcements as of yesterday... Once again there is nothing in the pipeline from SCS for Acid Pro. Pretty unfortunate. Almost as unfortunate as Ibanez killing off most of the japenese prestige guitars at namm as well. I did not see that coming. Message last edited on1/25/2013 9:26:07 AM by519tbarr. |

Once again there is nothing in the pipeline from SCS for Acid Pro. Does anyone actually believe that Sony would use NAMM (of all things) to announce anything big for ACID. Again - this thing (as we knew it) is dead. 4 going on 5 years now folks. While I still maintain that SMS may "reboot" ACID for the Mac one day in the distant future - I hold out zero hope for anything resembling an "Acid Pro 8 (Windows)" like many continue to think will happen. The whole recording space has moved on significantly since even AP7 - so even if SMS somehow pulled an AP8 together after all this time - would it really matter? I know that I would probably pass considering what I can do with a Studio One or other tools today. If I ever need any kind of "loop based action"...AP7 still does about as much as I need. VP |

Hey VP No one denies that the recording industry has moved on so to speak. I along with others have had to migrate to other platforms. Why we all come around here is a mystery to some degree...especially with the lack of news around here lately... I have migrated to Studio One and Reaper. Predominately using Reaper - as it runs a whole lot like Acid Pro - although there are definitely some things you have to get used to. And all my bass tracking is being done in Studio One Pro 2. Is it nostalgia? Is it intrigue that keeps us coming back? We all like sheep feel abandoned. For me personally Acid Pro was my first recording platform. It was great back in the day... But that was then... this is now... Some things are hard to let go of. But as we are not in control... we have no choice but to let go! Point noted! Why we all come around here is a mystery to some degree...especially with the lack of news around here lately... I will be honest - I do not come around to be "surprised" at even the slightest possibility of a new release - I only come around for the microscopic possibility of catching the fireworks when SMS finally admits that ACID is finished. I must say - I have never ever seen a major software company just instantly abandon what surely was one of their "big guns" so to speak - without so much as a peep about what happened (or where things are going - er not). Now - if that "rumor" I read about one of the main devs jumping ship is true - then that could certainly be construed as major roadblock to any new version. You ain't got jack if you ain't got code) But yeah - I still cannot stop being fascinated (like people stare at a passing car wreck) by the middle finger of silence that SMS continues to hold up after all these years - all the while continuing to sell an ancient 4 year old product like it matters. Excited about having Tracktion back and into the hands of the original developer. I do not see this happening and I do not see Sony resurrecting ACID. At this point the lack of communications and the way Sony is handling the death of ACID has left me with a bad taste for Sony. I'm staying away from all their software products at this point. No we are not staying away from the Forums! haha! There are features within Acid Pro - user functionality that made the software great and easy to use. It just needs an update and SCS needs to give some direction as to the future of the software. Personally, I've been working on exporting all my music in Acid Pro out of Acid Pro and prep'ing it for work in Reaper and Studio One. There will come a day where Acid Pro will not work in its current form in an updated Version of Windows. |

I promised many years ago i will not post ever again here... Mostly due to some guys who think they invented "Aminor" and bashing for spelling wrongly a word when English is not my native language lol. I keep reading from time to time all these years but of course nothing new is on the horizon. Many of you point out that you no longer can work with Acid Pro since you moved to 64bit Windows because of the need to load more "ram hungry" vstis. Well ... The inexpensive small JBridge app that many Cubase x64 users favor, can be the solution to all your problems. JBridge will bridge all your 64bit plugs to 32 bit so Acid can load them while at the same time all those bridged plugs will use/take up system ram and NOT the host's ram ( which in Acid Pro is 2 gb). I happily work a long time now this way in my studio with Win7 x64 and Acid Pro. Downside to this is the bridged plugs will use a bit more cpu than normal but with modern comp systems it is a trade off anyone can live with if u still favor Acid Pro to work with. It effin' works ! So, from my perspective i can continue working with AP from here to oblivion in the 64bit domain. Yes a native x64 Acid Pro is the most major need for pro/semi-pro users but the workaround works. So instead of barking Live this Reaper that ProTools another, which many of you here do, go make some music with this "hybrid" approach. I do. |

I don't understand what's so bad about some of us airing our grievances with Sony. Many of us have been with ACID for years (going on fifteen years for me) and have invested a ton of money into upgrades. The very least Sony can do is let us know, besides vague cryptic statements, where the software is headed. If or when I migrate to a new DAW, I'll make sure to continually browse these forums for further news regarding ACID, despite how futile that may be. I may even post about it, if for no other reason than to let Sony know that they've lost another customer...because I suspect that it will simply feel good to do so. For now, I'm sticking with ACID, but I'd be lying if I said I haven't been feeling the urge lately (now bordering on necessity) to move on to newer and [possibly] better things. It would be great if they merged sound forge acid pro and cd architect (rename it audio architect for the sake of creating iTunes mixes with split/separate but continuous play Tracks) I've always liked these three products (and also Vegas audio). It looks like the upgrade to reason 7 will sadly satisfy my looping slicing and time stretching needs; they have built in recycle style transient detection and elastic audio features. I still want acid pro 8 with sound forge and audio architect. |

+1000 I've done at least 6 or 7 complete albums in Acid Pro. I've never been as productive in any other DAW. I'd be satisfied if Sony would just fix some basic bugs in AP7. For instance: I always prefer using Basic mode (non-Aero) in windows. I've moved between 3 or 4 computers and from Vista to Win 7 since AP7 was released. On every computer, AP7 has a graphic bug when using basic mode. It often jumps out of focus like you've clicked on another window or to the desktop requiring an extra click each time. I've also dedicated loads of time to learning Ableton, it's fun and creative, but I find lacking as an editing and mixing platform. Dealing with clips in arraignment mode seems clunky just like dealing with regions and fades in ProTools did. Simple tools and workflows are the best. For example, I've done more beats in 3 months using Maschine than in 3 years of owning Ableton honestly. Recently I've gone back to using AP6 (except when I need elastique) or temporarily switching my desktop to Aero just to use AP7. I'm still looking for the perfect DAW. If Tracktion can rise from the grave, surely Acid Pro can. Message last edited on3/13/2013 10:08:06 PM bycoolout. |

I first used Sony Acid back in 2001 when i was 16 years old and immediately fell in love with it. Since then i moved cities, i finished my studies, i edited thousands of records, i mixed thousands friend's projects and i produced countless tracks and remixes of my own. Some good, some bad, some average some helped me start my career. My connection with Acid is esoteric to say the least. It's an extension of my hardware and my life in music. I truly cannot believe that it is going to be left to it's demise, with no care and no update from Sony. I am positive that there is something we can do, to give Sony a good reason to update, fix the bugs and give us the 64bit version so we use Acid to it's full potential. I understand this message might sound kinda cheesy but be sure that there are a lot of honest emotions attached to it. I pray and hope for a better future to come! |

I've love to see Acid Pro updated. I'm not even talking a 64-bit port, just some issues cleaned up so it works with Synthmaster, and fixes some oddities when using my Alesis Qx25 as a control surface. I'm sure it's a forlorn hope, though. Acid Music Studio gets the updates, so does Vegas. Sad, really. I'm most productive in Acid, the newly-resurrected Tracktion 4 is second best. Meh. |

This is the saddest forum. All about a company that doesn't have the guts to pony up an honest answer to a 5 year old question. You know what would be funny? If one of us "end users" was actually a board member in disguise! And they had "documented" all this loathsome, un-repented, pseudo-hoping faceless gang of pitiful "CUSTOMER" base that has ranted on this subject of the next possible improvement to what used to be the software to have. Maybe that would be interesting to watch unfold?! I personally have replaced all my sony products, because if they treat me this way on this product, [Acid]no other product is safe. It's not about the product anymore. It's their refusal to "communicate"! What does all their products supposed to enhance anyway? . . . communication. Walk the walk! |

I had been an owner of Acid 3 . I think I still have the old disk. I used it all the way up until version 6 . I jumped ship by necessity when I upgraded my computer to Vista probably at least 5 years ago. Back then the big issue was compatibility with Vista. The best I could get was that it "might" work on Vista. Since I am also a Sonar user and Sonar reads acid loops I decided then to move away until Sony upgraded to something I could use. I have continued to upgrade my Cakewalk Sonar to X2 . Although it was possible to add and edit acid loops in Sonar the workflow was never as good as when working in Acid. So at 84.00 I jumped back into the Acid Pro game thinking I would rewire them together. Acid Pro 7e loaded right up in my Win 7 64 bit computer and I had a project going in it in no time. Acid is the perfect environment for me construct both loop and recorded tracks.IMHO there is simply no better way to organize songs and ideas fast. The clean look of Acid Pro and the simplistic approach to creation are the main factors in making ideas stick before you forget them. I was surprised that although I had purchased the software as a scratch pad for import into my main DAW , I was able to rig Busses and add multiple VST effects with no need to read the manual again. When I loaded up my win7 64 computer I always kept the 32 bit versions of my vst effects and instruments. This came in handy when using Acid. It immediately seen all my VSTs . Sony were slow to finally get Acid to work on Win 7/ 8. I see an eventual slow move toward 64 bit. If it doesn't happen I don't think I wasted 84.00 for the upgrade. I know there are issues with rewire 32/64 bit. If I can't pull it off I'll simply export tracks I worked on in Acid and import them into Sonar X2. I am actually surprised that I may not need Sonar for some of my work. I might be able to complete it in Acid! Sonar X2 carries the advanced sophistication necessary for in depth and complicated mixes, but sometimes you don't need all that. All DAWs have one or more things they do better than the others. In the case of Acid Pro 7e, I can't find a quicker more efficient way to compose ideas bar none. Keep in mind I'm not a DJ or a looper. I play guitar and keys. I have BFD 2 and several of the other drum programs. Yes those drums sound much better in most cases than the loops, you have much more control over your drum sounds .vs loops, however a person can use drum replacement and still make use of those programs or use Acid as a rhythm bed....and the drum loops can be pretty darned good! So I would say to Sony- Don't discontinue Acid, continue compatibility development with regard to 64 bit compatibility/rewire compatibility/ update for new OS. Keep making those loops. Don't attempt to add too many new features because the simplicity is what makes it attractive, at least for me.You have a great program here! In the interim I'll be plugging away at getting my ideas down fast and efficiently on Acid Pro 7 32 bit wrapped on my 64 bit machine with no problems. FWIW I can fairly understand a slow move toward 64 bit. as most computers are still shipping with 32 bit OS. The percentage of 64 bit compared to 32 bit is low. I still think it is a good business decision to write the code for an update as many loyal users are music geeks running 64 bit. |

Just to correct you Starise Sony has not updated Acid Pro since February 2010. There was never an official patch or update for Windows 8. I have run it on Windows 8 and it seems to work however, you can not crossgrade from Win 7 to Win 8 64x and have it work perfect. A clean install of Win 8 seems to work. |

Well they say ignorance is bliss. I loaded it and it worked. I tried to load Acid 6 on my older Vista machine and it didn't work...go figure. Acid 7 seems to mesh ok on my win 7 system .So far no crashes or hang ups. For me the move from Acid 6 to Acid 7 was an upgrade....didn't realize that it had been that long since they changed it though. Thanks for the clarification. Sony is big into coding for the mac. That could happen, although that wouldn't affect me at all...I'm not going to say Acid is dead, not by a long shot. Is Sony SLOW to move? Yeah that's an understatement. I think we will have Acid improved or something better....eventually. |
