TEEN COP 2: Angst In Space my 2nd Vegas edit

wwjd wrote on 1/22/2013, 8:51 AM
With all your help, I released TEEN COP 2 today! I even put a thank you in the credits hahahaha!
This was a "LEARN VEGAS TUTORIAL" project for myself and it came out even better than I was expecting. That doesn't mean it is GOOD, just better than I thought it could be with lame story, no planning, zero budget....

Grab some popcorn and enjoy the ride.... into the icey cold, lonely depths of OUTER SPACE!!!

Thanks for bringing a great belly laugh to my day!
;?)

If you laughed ONCE, then it worked. :) Dija make it through the whole thing? Never meant it to be so long, maybe could have trimmed some, but because I'm new at this, my tracks were a nested mess. I had no way of trimming EASILY without screwing up all the music queues. I But now I learned to plan way better hahahaha

What a hoot! Congrats.

BTW, 2013 = MMXIII

you are right. after 30 minutes of research on the proper roman numeral year, I typo'd it in the end. You are the first one to notice THAT error. There are PLENTY more, keep looking hahahahaha
musicvid10 wrote on 1/22/2013, 10:24 AM
I made it all the way through; somehow by the end I wished it had been 2 min. shorter.
But I don't suggest changing it now. Tuck that thought in your head for next time.

Curious - were the shots inside the space cabin chromakeyed? If so, whose plugin did you use?

wwjd wrote on 1/22/2013, 10:47 AM
which part chroma keyed? I shot in a dark garage with one main light as the sun, so it was "dark" outside the cockpit. tried to keep effects to minimum, except the borrowed NASA CG thing.

I don't know how to chroma key yet, so, no it wasn't. :)

Good fun Greg!
I too am a FIT guy.
Great utilitarian vehicle for video guys like us.
All the gear,.....fits.
Also doubles nicely as a space shuttle cabin! LOL
This was a great exercise in which I've no doubt you learned a lot.
I'm am watching again, just for the pizza delivery scene.

Loved it!

Man, nice job. You've got some good stuff in your head. My "learning to use Vegas" project from a decade ago was a slide show of family photos. I'm scared to think what you'll be doing a decade from now.

Yes, Dan, learned a TON! Was an EXCELLENT way to learn how to edit video for me.
And I love my FIT. I got 53mpg doing 53mpg on the highway in a construction zone!

on rewatch:
- count how many times "change is dropped on the ground"
- figure out the fast food restaurants displayed in the cockpit monitors
- note the gun fire reflecting in the helmet shield! My favorite effect :)
- note that none of the dialog had been written for the mission control and space stuff. none of it REALLY syncs up ahhahahaa!
and the sunset ending was a private pleasure too

thanks guys! I got "something" in me head, that's for sure! :D If I can entertain any of YOU guys here I feel pretty good about it.
Learned so much, and most of you helped a ton!

The video gave me a good laugh. My compliments. There is only one minor thing that concerns me and I hope that no one takes it personally. Because of recent tragic events, showing guns in a school is a very sensitive topic. I feel that in the hallway locker scene where he transforms in a "cop", the same story could be told without the quick cut to the pistol or the part where he puts it down his trousers. It appears that these could be edited out of the scene without affecting the flow of the video. Just a suggestion, otherwise I'm fine with everything else.

Very well done, the amount of effort put into building props and sets is to be commended.
I have to agree with Musicvid though, a couple of minutes less would have been more. Some of the gags go on and on and on. As soon as the audience gets the gag cut, that way you keep the viewer on a roll and when they're on a roll they just skip over shortcomings.

Thanks for the feedback guys, I really do appreciate it! It needs cuts, but I'm moving on, as this was just a tester for me. :) Let's just call it a "Director's Cut" hahahaha
In the future, I will MOST DEFINITELY think MOSTLY of the viewer and hack away, but this little one's not worth the effort.

excellent - interesting to see where you go now ;-)

PERSONALLY, it will be hard to top "Outer Space" for me, but I did set it up for a "3" even though I had no intention of doing a 3. Just thought the end teaser would be funny. There are 23 episode ideas penned up, but I have several other serious scripts I want to pursue now that I have the gear and can kinda edit.

I'm sure I'll be here asking weird, sometimes duum questions for years :D

and THANKS FOR WATCHING! Sorry it is longer than usual "shorts"
smhontz wrote on 1/22/2013, 8:11 PM
How DID you do the sunset ending? I really enjoyed that, too.
wwjd wrote on 1/22/2013, 8:42 PM
Thanks, smhontz, I enjoyed it as well. I'm not really a "camera guy", so tenichally the focus is all wrong - well sort of...

Focused on getting into car so he could drive away OUT of focus for the tire bit....
I wanted it to be a "drive off into the sunset" thing, so I matted over a slow fade in evening cloud thing cookie cuttered so the bottom half was faded out. Then added my stock NASA stars photo to cross fade with the clouds, also cookie cuttered to fad at the mid point. There is a couple mistakes in the shot, like the lamp post gets over laid with the coulds, and also on the far right, you can see just the tip of a tree sort of floating above the real trees.
I say the focus is all wrong because it is still focused closer, but in the end, kinda looks like it was focused on the clouds anyway, and the mind goes with that.

The video of those clouds was already that color, but I deepened it some. Also, they slowly move, and I was going to speed it up so they are moving for the fun of it. I bet I can get the stars to move also, that might be fun! and maybe some sparkling ones, and maybe light up that street lamp also! hahahaha
I'm gonna go try something...

Thanks for noticing that little detail I enjoyed creating! I'm really enjoying using Vegas.

I MEAN I MEAN That's just how the sky looked that night and I got lucky capturing it!
wwjd wrote on 1/22/2013, 11:27 PM
heh... messing cutting the final render, I shaved off about 45 seconds out of the first 2 minutes easily. nothing sacred! Cut the Fat is my mantra. If it doesn't feed the STORY, then WHY is it in there? :)

Any more takers for constructive criticism on this?
