Why is the gain so low when playing back acid pro tracks? I do not have this problem with my other software. Furthermore, when I transfer tracks via light pipe to my alesi hd24 hard disk recorder the signal is weak. Again, I do no have this problem with cubase, soundforge, etc......

Have you tried adjusting fader levels not only for the overall project but also for the individual tracks, getting them as hot as possible without clipping the master fader? (The same actually applies for other faders like assignable FX faders as well.)

ACID takes your fader levels into account when rendering. If, say, the master fader never goes above -10.0 dB, then your project when rendered will also not go above that.

What audio hardware are you using?
What driver versions for this hardware?
What version of Windows are you running on?

A guess:
You are using audio hardware with WDM drivers. The WDM "kmixer" which inserts a -6dB pad on output through Wave Emulated WDM drivers which ACID uses. This could be the culprit.

Peter,

Could you elaborate on the "WDM -6db pad" that is inserted issue? I use an M-Audio AP 24/96 with the latest drivers. Are you saying that when I render from Acid 3 Pro using these drivers that my output file is reduced by -6 db? Is there any work around or tips on how to maxmize volume in this scenario?

Thanks.

Hello,

To add to what has been said already, you can set the meter resolution so that you can get closer to 0dB without clipping. I set mine to -24 to 0dB.
Right click the master fader meter and select the resolution you want. But you likely already know this.

See ya, Rockit

The -6dB issue is introduced during playback, not at render time. The bug is in the WDM subsystem - kmixer - on Windows.

Rendering your mix to a file will not include this pad as we don't render through the WDM drivers.

The reason I guess that this might be the original users post is that he is streaming - not rendering - his material to an ADAT vs rendering.

Peter, I am a little confused with your reply. Acid is the only software I have this problem with. All my other applications run plenty hot going to my hd24 and yes it occurs primarily on playback. I am using a gina card and alesis adat edit card. I also run cubase, wavelab, and soundforge...Mike
