Possible to burn Blu-ray to DVD with VP8 & DVDAS?

Apparently it's possible to burn a Blu-Ray file onto a standard DVD-R disc for playback on a Blu-ray player.

What I've read is the file has to be rendered as AVCHD to work. I don't see an option for AVCHD per se within the templates in Vegas Pro 8. I see one for AVC/AAC.

Can this be done using VP8 and DVDAS?

What other considerations I should be aware of?

Thanks

lack of compatibility with set-top players, would mean that you are essentially wasting time on such a goal in a workflow. Buy Blu-ray and be done with the hassle.

lack of compatibility with set-top players

You mean it won't play on some of them or it won't play on any of them?

85% probability that you cannot get your disk of authored hybrid DVD to play reliably on a given set-top player. Only 15% chance to get good compatibility.

I've taken my BDMV image on DVD-5 and DVD-9 disks to big box stores and tried them for compatibility and my results were better than videoITguy. That will be little consolation if you happen to have a player that won't work, however.

I have not used AVCHD disk structure. I create .iso images in DVD Architect (not Studio, I have not used it) and burn them to the media of my whim using ImgBurn.

Search for the terms Blu-ray, DVD-5 and DVD-9 using my username and any date and you're sure to find much discussion of how it's done. I type rather slowly, though, and I get weary of typing the whole workflow over and over again.

The AVCHD disks can be played at leat on any Windows PC! On my PS3 Sony Playstation I can play the Video from it. The menu structure works only if I use the so called "AHCHD patcher" and "Nero Video" to create the DVD-R disk, or DVD-RW for a first test.
I use VP12, the render schows up as: Sony AVC = AVCHD 1920x1080-50i...
(this is may first post here, sorry for my english :-)
Good luck

Until recently it was possible to put Blu-ray content on DVD using DVD Arch Pro, but not with the latest versions. Such a disc was not quite the same as a so-called AVCHD disc, and SCS never said that it was. While my BD player will play all AVCHD discs I have created with MultiAVCHD, and other software I have tried, it won't play the DVDA-produced discs unless first patched with a little utility called AVCHD-Patcher.

Not all BD players will play AVCHD discs.

I agree that it is probably like flogging a dead horse to use AVCHD discs these days, now that BD-Rs are reasonably priced.
