Subject:Acid Pro in 2013

Don't know about any of you... but those sale prices that went for a month and a half were kind of a kick in the teeth to people who have supported SCS and Acid Pro for years. It's hard to watch others get the same software for 1/3rd the price you paid for the software.
Having said that all bitterness aside...
2013 the year Acid Pro comes back, or the year Acid Pro becomes officially obsolote? You make the call.
There is no question I would love to see it come back and kick some $$$
I however am using another DAW now due to ram limitations for plugins.
Just curious to see what people think will come in 2013? Yet another Version of Music Studio Acid - 10...
Acid Pro needs a serious facelift... and if done right I would consider giving it another spin!

Not sure what DAW you are using now, but visit the forums for Ableton or FL Studio and you will find them full of activity and direct responses from mods or even from staff.

Here? Other than the few die hard users, dead.

Sony will milk this cow as long as it produces milk...even at 1/3 of the bucketful it used to get.

Sony Acid is a dead product.

Even if it is "dead", I bought at the recent $60 ish download price (I had version 4). Don't use it often but the Garritan VST for my EP playing was worth it alone.

It will be interesting, but seeing that I used 4 for over 10 years, I have a large loop library and with with soundforge and SMS nothing I need more to do with sound.

Perhapes they will add AcidPro functionality to SoundForge.

AP is already obsolete...and not by it's own hand either. :)

I still maintain that Sony is busy on a Mac port and that should sufficiently setback (and finally kill) any forward momentum on the Windows version. Like they did with Forge - rolled out a Mac version, made a huge stink about it - no one cared and nothing else new has happened and that was months ago.

On a much higher level - Sony as a corporation is bleeding money left right and center - not sure what that means to the media software division...but it can't be good for any department trying to "right the ship" so to speak.

2013-wise - I see the usual fall update to Music Studio but I am done worrying about AP or if it ever comes back. For what I need - AP 7 is just fine...

Interesting after the long month and a half of sales
Acid Pro 7 has remained at $187 and change while all the other software went back up to it's normal pricing.
Acid Pro 7 must be on its way out. Or...Something "New" this way comes???

Acid Pro is still alive and well on my end. Can anyone tell me how Music Studio 9 is considered an upgrade? I'm curious.

Edit:

Just looking at the comparison chart. I'm still lost as to how MS9 is an upgrade.

ACID Music Studio 9.0 system requirements:

Microsoft® Windows Vista® 32-bit or 64-bit SP2, Windows® 7 32-bit or 64-bit, or Windows® 8 32-bit or 64-bit operating system

ACID Pro 7 system requirements:

Microsoft® Windows® XP SP2, Windows Vista™, Windows® 7, or Windows® 8 operating system

I did purchase Acid Music Studio 9 because 64-bit operating system.

Yep - my Acid Pro 7 still works fine, and works with all new plugins and VSTi that I've tried. But not 64-bit ones.

I consider MS9 to be an upgrade, because it works on Windows 8.

Despite what the specs say, the AP7 demo refused to run on my Windows 8 Pro machine. Too bad, I was ready to pony up the extra cash for AP7, but for now MS9 will do.

Ap7 wasnt designed to work on Win 8.
MS9 also doesnt require the add ons like .net framework or quicktime to run.
A new Pro version is needed that is 64x.

i don't think there is a reason to make a new version. most people have moved on and to get them back would be almost impossible. i can't go back from going to pro tools. other studios use PT's so just on a compatibility standard alone i couldn't go back. now as far as creating music FL has come out with updates every year at least a couple times per. plus once you buy into it you get free upgrades. making a AP8 would be a very hard sell.

I will not deny it will be a hard sell. SCS only has itself to blame for that.
I have Pro Tools 10, Studio One, Reaper and Acid Pro. Pro Tools 10 is great for video work.
But i prefer to work in Studio One or Reaper any day of the week over pro tools.
And no one can deny how great the bottom end frequencies sound in Studio One. I track all my bass in Studio One now.
I still would love to see SCS update Acid Pro. There are still some great features in the program.
But they are basically running out of time to do something with it.

Um ProTools great for anything? ?!!! For video (or even for straight audio recording) try Vegas.

Unless Studio One has a problem, bass frequencies should sound no different to those emanating from any other DAW. Unless you are suggesting they have some proprietary compression or EQ plugin, that is hopefully optional !

Geoff
As in pro tools is great for doing music for tv.
Omf support which we lack in Acid Pro.
As i have stated several times... I would love to see Acid Pro make a come back.
But in no way is the software cutting edge now or meeting my requirements for a powerhouse DAW.
Vegas does video lovely. So do other non-linear systems.
