CD-burning fails repeatedly

I tried burning a video CD and I tried burning an audio CD. Both failed in Vegas but worked in other programs.
VIDEO: The video CD process RENDERED my file properly (mpg format), but then it claimed that the CD wasn't big enough for my file -- ridiculous, because the file is only 13 megs!! (it's only a 1-minute Test video.) Got the same result on several successive attempts.
Then I tried burning the file to CD with NERO software instead, and it worked perfectly.
AUDIO: I opened, in Vegas, an audio CD project I had created earlier in CD Architect. When I tried to burn a CD, Vegas said I had no CD burner. After I quit and rebooted three times, it finally recognized my Plextor drive. But then it kept telling me to put a blank disc in the CD burner, although there was already one in it. On multiple attempts, Vegas kept failing to recognize the fact that the disc was there. Fortunately, I still have the old CD Architect on my machine -- I tried burning the audio project with CD Architect, and it worked perfectly.

Vegas doesn't seem to be up to this kind of work!!!!
