I have a Yamaha DGX200 midi keyboard connected to W7 laptop via UX16 interface. Sony Acid 8.

There is a distinct lag between pressing a key on the keyboard and it being reproduced on the laptop, nearly a second.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to cure this please?

Does the UX16 interface come with ASIO drivers? If so you need to enable them under Options | Preferences | Audio Device. If not, sell it on eBay and buy one that has ASIO drivers. You could also try the free ASIO4ALL but the point is, you don't want to work with MIDI in ACID without ASIO drivers to get low latency.

BTW, the Yamaha UX16 interface has 1.5 star out of 5 star rating on Musician's Friend (where 5 is good and 1 is very, very bad). I think selling it and getting something better is a good idea. The M-Audio USB MIDIsport has always been a good inexpensive option.

Hi JonnyRoy and thanks for your reply.

I'll look into the ASIO drivers as not sure what they are.

The UX16 was bought because it seemed to be the only one that was compatible with 64 bit W7 and had to be shipped from USA to UK. It was the one recommended by Yamaha.

It came with a disc to download the drivers. Will do some more research and get back to you, if you don't mind.

Many thanks

Antony

I explain it on my web site: How do I remove MIDI keyboard delay?

Of course Yamaha is going to recommend their own device, That doesn't mean it's good. It just means that they get revenue from you buying it.;-) Almost all MIDI devices support Windows 7 64-bit these days.

I would definitely install the drivers then. They may be ASIO drivers which is exactly what you need to reduce the latency.
