Subject:SF Mac doesn't work on my iMac 2011

I bought and installed SF Mac. (I'm not a neophyte...I've been using SF Win since V. 2.0) All I get is my normal desktop, the SF icon in the dock and the SF ribbon on top. nothing seems to bring up the workspace.

I had this same problem with the demo before I bought it. Thought it was probably just a demo anomaly.

Where should I look? I tried shutting down and restarting. no luck

They're going to want you to open a support ticket on this. Try that first.

Are you running Lion or Mountain Lion? Make sure what ever version you have is updated.

Hold down shift and control keys and start Forge. This will reset Forge to its defaults. Does forge start?

running Mtn Lion, 10.8.2 with latest update.

shift/control start does nothing. Program seems to start but no workspace...just icon in dock and ribbon at top.

Tried it on my MacBook Pro 2007 vintage running Mtn Lion and it seems to work fine.

Just did the SF update and still no workspace.

Still doesn't work. Reinstalled the OS. Reinstalled SF. No workspace unless I click on "new" and then the workspace lasts for 2 sec and the program crashes. Posted a Support thingy with the crash log etc. It's been 10 days and nada...no answer . Is anyone there? This is very disturbing.

If you want to try something in the meantime, you can try this. If the app isn't working at all, it's harmless:

1) In Finder, hit Cmd+Shift+G and enter: ~/Library/Preferences
2) Delete all files that start with: com.sony.SonyCreativeSoftware.Sound-Forge-Pro
3) In Finder, hit Cmd+Shift+G and enter: ~/Library/Saved Application State
4) Delete all files that start with: com.sony.SonyCreativeSoftware.Sound-Forge-Pro
5) Empty the Trash
6) Restart Sound Forge

No promises, but it might get you further than you're getting on the machine exhibiting the problem.

I guess I should feel good since it works on my Macbook Pro but not my iMac. But I feel cheated paying the crossgrade for a buggy program.

so how long do i wait for a solution?

Have you tried the newest build, RickDV? (1.0.21 build 3).

Just to be safe, I'd follow the directions posted above in this thread by J. before running the new build.

Have you tried the newest build paired with the directions listed upthread?

That'd be the first thing I'd try.

Followed the instructions for deleting files. Installed latest build. Still doesn't work on my iMac.

Other sound programs on the computer: Amadeus Pro, Audacity, Adobe Audition, soundminer mini,
iTunes and Qlab.

Would something in one of these programs inhibit Sound Forge?

The other apps should have no effect. Removing all those prefs should have at least gotten the app to come up. If you do indeed have the latest update installed, the file here might have some helpful information in it: ~/Library/Application Support/Sony/Sound ForgePro/1.0/Log_AppLifetime.txt. While you are in there, you can try deleting metrics.xml if it exists.
