There are three different play buttons in Soundforge: They should be visible at the bottom of the window of your sample.
The first plays the sample straight, once, and no more.
The second plays the whole file or selected (black) region as a continuous loop.
The third plays the sample as a finished sample wave, as would be used by a sample synthesiser, playing the lead-in region, looping region for as long as you define, and then the terminating region. If you define an infinite loop in your sample, clicking this third button once plays the loop; a second click finishes the loop and plays whatever is left of the wave that is not defined as loop.

Hope this helps.
