The problem you're having is known as "The Proximity Effect". This happens when you Close Mic something, (ie within 1 ft. of the microphone), using a directional microphone (ie Cardiode, Super Cardiode, Hyper Cardiode pickup patterns). If you're within 1 ft. of the sound source then you turn the bass roll-off switch on, if you're futher than 1 ft. from the source then turn it off. If you're microphone doesn't have a bass-roll off switch and you're not running through a mixing board where you can roll-off 75Hz, then you can add some EQ in sound forge after you record it and roll-off 75Hz.
