I recorded some narration with a minidisc recorder. How do i transfer it to SF for editing without getting muffled sound? The narration sounds perfect on the MD but sounded muffled when i transfer by pressing play on the MD and record on SF. or what are the configuration to note eg sample size etc. Thanks a million |

with 44.100 hz and 16 bits you should easily match the sound quality on your MD device. How ever, since the MD is digital, and to get the recording over to the SF through (I presume) analog connections your digital transmission goes first throught a DAC (read Digital to Analog Converter) in the MD and then a ADC (reversed DAC) in the computer. This will often reduce the quality of a recording, and totally dependant on how good DAC/ADCs you have. If this is a cheap sound card that you are using to get the recording into SF then that might be your problems. The best case would of course be if your MD had a digital out and your sound card had a digital in, then and only then you'd have a clean transfer with out danger of quality loss. jonhallur, I'm new to digital transfers. Is that done in real-time, just like analog transfers? - Pup the clueless |

yes, real time in most cases, I havn't yet seen a MD device which supports a digital dump of any kind. My MD has a lightpipe which in realtime can be used to transfer digital informations between the computer and MD, just hook it up and press record on one device and play on the other. Simple as that. If you don't have digital outs on your MD and digital in on your soundcard, the quality is limited to the quality of the D/A converter and the output amp on your MD, the input of your soundcard, and the A/D converter on your soundcard. Your bgest bet is to look in the Yellow pages for a tape/CD duplication studio in your area, get it transfered to CD (Tape Complex in Boston does it for about $25.00)and then edit it in sound forge. |
