Subject:Lift vocals from track

Hello,
I have Sound Forge Audio Studio 9, Sony Acid Pro 7 and Vegas Pro 12. I want to lift the vocals only from a song...sample it, if you will. I do not want to erase the vocals, just keep the vocals only. Can this be done with any of the above software? How is it done?
Thanks!
Weldon

Find out which recording company produced the song. Call them up and ask them if they still have the mulitrack master tape. Offer to trade them your license keys for Sound Forge, Acid, and Vegas in return for them mixing a custom copy of the song with only the vocals for you.

That would actually be a pretty good deal for you if they'd accept that.

You might want to have a look at Spectral Layers. It is capable of doing such type of work, but the end result will be completely dependent on the original material.

Expect to spend a lot of time doing this, as there is no easy button for this kind of work.

I think one the Vocal Eraser type plugins (SCS Vocal Eraser, or Voice Trap, or was is another ?) has an option to keep either the 'remainder track', or keep the removed vocal and erase the backing.

Would something like Melodyne be able to do this? (I don't know, just asking as it seems to be able to separate out parts pretty well from what I've seen)
