Hello, I have Sound Forge Audio Studio 9, Sony Acid Pro 7 and Vegas Pro 12. I want to lift the vocals only from a song...sample it, if you will. Find out which recording company produced the song. Call them up and ask them if they still have the mulitrack master tape. Offer to trade them your license keys for Sound Forge, Acid, and Vegas in return for them mixing a custom copy of the song with only the vocals for you. That would actually be a pretty good deal for you if they'd accept that. |

The short answer is it cannot be done. There are some plugins and standalone software packages that claim to remove vocals, but I've yet to find one that produces good results. I'm not sure about vocal removal plug-ins that keep only the vocal, but I would imagine they exist, again with the caveat that they probably don't work too well. Why not just Google for an a cappella version of the song you're looking for. Sometimes you can find vocal stems in the wild. Rob. |

As in your duplicate post on the same issue in the Acid forum, some 'vocal removers' offer to keep the vocal or the backing. I've had quite reasonable results, but highly dependant on the source music. Anything with heavy reverb, active panning, etc is less likely to be successful. I think some people unrealistically expect the result to be like the vocal track muted from the multitrack.
