I drive a Blazer.
It has four-wheel drive.

Which of the following is true if you accept the statements above?
a) All four-wheel drive vehicles are Blazers.
b) All Blazers have four-wheel drive.
c) Only my Blazer has four-wheel drive.
d) None of the above.

IMHO: d

This is gonna become a looonnnggg thread :-)

Appreciate the concern. ;) As a matter of logic, not opinion, the answer is "d."

Meanwhile, a funny thing happened to a train leaving leaving LA at 100 MPH and a train leaving NYC at 50 MPH...

Ah, i see the "it" word. Does this mean the type of car named "Blazer" or just "my Blazer" .... tricky. Because 'it' is undefined.

but my interpretation would lead to answer d.

Paul.

Taken in context, "it" means "The Blazer I drive." That is the historically correct interpretation.
vtxrocketeer wrote on 11/30/2012, 10:27 AM
Paul, you need to pick the least incorrect answer. No room for interpretation on the test.
paul_w wrote on 11/30/2012, 10:30 AM
Taken in context, then its D.

Paul.

You must have taken a course in Formal Logic as I did a long time ago (e.g., that's me, and not necessarily you, with the reference to a long time ago, LOL). Is that a logical statement??

John is man.
John is tall.
All men are tall.

ILLOGICAL CONCLUSION!!

Formal Logic?

Naw, Conditional and Biconditional Statements, and Deductive Reasoning are all introduced in the Middle School math and science curricula. It's just that some would rather remain oblivious for the sake of their own convenience or self delusion. A political debate, for instance, could not take place without the suspension of reason.
