This is a newbie question but someone please help- here's a copy of my email: I am planning to re-install Windows, and I only have a downloaded purchase of SoundForge5.0- how do I save this to a disc so I don't lose the program when I reset my harddrive? I'm sure I need to save the SForge and VegasLe .exe files, but there's also folders containing set-up files- but when I add the set-up folders into the menu of items to be burnt to CD- it only transfers the folders and not their contents- If I have to "select all" to get all the files in the folders then how do I keep these files organized on my backup disk? And If I choose to buy the regular CD Boxed version of the software is it still only $50 (since technically I already bought the software). |

If you have your setup files, or the files you downloaded, and the folder is only being copied but not the contents, then you will have to make a log of which files should be under which folder, and burn them individually to disc, then reassemble after reinstall. This is painstaking, but works. The other option: use a program such as WinRAR or WinZIP to archive and compress the files in the setup folder into a single file. I would think that the downloaded version of the program would already be in a self-extracting form of archive, but if not, use the WinRAR or WinZIP program to make a new compressed file/archive, making sure you check the option to retain folder pathways so that files are extracted into the correct folders, though I believe WinZIP does this automatically; WinRAR requires you to check this option. Hope this helps, Miguel |

What you download is a single file, so, burn that file to CD. It IS a self-extracting file. You burn that to CD and if you re-install at a later date you just go to the update site and get the latest update. *IMPORTANT* Also write down your activation code and keep it with the CD. When you re-install you'll need it. Later. |

I think this way is easier, write down your code or burn it to a cd as a text file. Setup your new computer, goto www.sonicfoundry.com, click on software, software, sound forge 5, demo version, download it, run it, run the setup that it extracts, run sound forge 5, put in your code, register online, and that should be that.. That way you have the newest version, I dunno I just find it easier, personaly, its what I did when I formated a week ago. |
