I've recently upgraded to version 10. I've been using it for a few weeks. Lately, it has been cutting off the end of some songs. The wave shows on the screen, but without sound. When I save it, it cuts the wave at the point where the sound ended. The original file is not a problem as it plays to completion in Windows Media Player. Has anyone encountered this before? |

I'm having that problem with my old XP laptop once in a while, but so far only if i am opening various compressed formats. I've found that if i open a compressed file and immediately save it as .wav without doing any editing, then i can open the .wav file and edit with no problem. Haven't seen the problem on either my XP desktop or my Win7 laptop. |

I have version 9.0e, and I'm having trouble saving FLAC files. I have a specific file that is 58 minutes long, and when I save it as FLAC, it appears to truncate it at 29 minutes. If I close the file and re-open it, it shows the full length of the file, but the peaks display ends at 29 minutes. If I place the cursor in the blank area, it will play, but If I start playing just before the cutoff, it stops where the waveform ends. Then it will no longer play. The file is the correct size and will play in Media Monkey. Here's where it gets interesting. I can convert the "corrupted" FLAC file to WAV in Media Monkey, then convert the WAV to FLAC, and the problem is gone. There doesn't seem to be any damage to the file. |

I have the same problem; sometimes I see the waveform but get no sound and occasionally there won't be any waveform but there is sound. I've not found a solution to the problem. It always happens for the last few seconds of a file. |

I've had the same problem with mp3 files. The issue got resolved when I modified the files with Tagscanner (just edited metadata and saved) and it worked like a charm. Message last edited on2/1/2013 6:37:26 AM bysergiob. |

Has there been no answer to this? I have had this problem on both of my Dell laptops, and it is a major issue that I have not been able to resolve. I make an MP3 file (either ripping from a CD I own), adjust it for volume and save. All works well. But if I ever reopen the file to make a change it will many times have the end cut off. The band at the top will show the whole waveform, but the workspace itself will just cut off, as does the sound. Sometime the sound continues for another second, but still cuts off. Sometimes I can click 'fade out' and more of the waveform appears (and it stays after I 'undo'), but not always and not always the entire missing section. There seems to be no reason to it, but it happens often, and if I am not ultra careful to always check the end of the waveform, I can lose important information. This is not acceptable for such an expensive piece of software. |

sergiob Could you explain more about what you did to resolve the matter, as I don't quite understand? Is it because I am using a 'wrong' tag naming program? I use Mp3tag v2.71 and love it, so will be upset if I have to change. Thanks for any help you can provide. |

I have noticed this EXACT behavior many times in ACID (which I don't actually use much). I have been trying to get SONY to help with SIMILAR problems, which may or may not relate to your exact problems. In my case, I had PCA and FLAC files deleting beginnings/endings. thread here: http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/forums/showmessage.asp?messageid=926310 This was all narrowed down to crappy coding of INPUT/OUTPUT FILE PLUG-INS. The bad behavior was determined BY SONY to be related to files that did not have a certain amount of silence at the end or beginning. Swapping old codecs from an older version of sound forge (8 or 9 I think) did work to correct some issues. The problems appeared WHEN AN EFFECT OR PROCESS WAS APPLIED TO THE FILE, THEN SAVED. Saving without applying an effect did not ruin the file! So you might test for that relationship. And YEAH, $399 list for an audio editor that doesn't like it when you edit files is pretty ridiculous!!!! |

MP3 files that are VBR (variable bit rate) can be a problem if they don't contain metadata that specify the length. The entire file would need to be scanned to get an exact length, and this can be slow for very large files. A portion of the MP3 data is read and used to estimate length; unfortunately this apparently can be a little short. Sergiob, the Tagscanner app probably set the length tag in the metadata, which fixed the problem. This tag is named TLEN. There should be a pref in the apps to force it to scan the entire MP3 file. It may be exposed in General prefs, or a hidden internal pref "Scan entire MP3 file to determine sample count" (search for MP3 to find it in the latter). This will affect performance so you may prefer to enable it only as you need it. I don't know about FLAC files, perhaps there is a similar issue as MP3 VBR but I'm not aware of a workaround pref. Edit: p.s. MP3 is a poor editing format as silence is inserted at the beginning of the data. This is the nature of the MP3 codec and the amount of silence is unpredictable. It's best to render your MP3 files to a lossless format such as WAV PCM or Sony PCA and use those in your projects. Message last edited on10/1/2015 5:21:22 PM byAllegretto. |

I'm discouraged that you posted this almost exactly 3 years to the day and I am having the exact same problem today without being able to find a solution. |

I've been beating my head against the wall with MP3 files having the last few seconds cut off. finally I hit this fix. I opened the file in WinAmp. Alt-3 Info. Click ID3V1 and ID3V2 tabs and uncheck Include ID3V1/2 tag in file. This has solved it for me. |
