Hello, all. I've noticed that my compressed and normalized (wav.) projects set-off the clipping meter when converted to MP3s. Can anyone explain the science behind this? Is it just one of those annoying MP3 things, like when it adds space at the end of your file? My (wav.) files are fine. Thanks. - pup the ponderer |

Just normalise your .WAVs to -1.0 dB peek value before compressing them to .MP3 As I understood the mpeg compression it takes your waveform and changes it to a spectrum based graphs representing your wavefile. But as this does not contain the phase information for each harmonic you might get value higher than the 16 bits you are working with and there for get a overdrive. Of course this should be forseen by the MP3 codec and avoided. Jón Hallur |
