Subject:Equalizing volume level in a song

Hello, I have a problem you might help me with. I've got a song (stored in a regular WAV file), in which there are different volume levels (the song was a part of a movie soundtrack and when the movie actors start talking, the music volume goes down not to deafen their dialog). My problem is that I don't know, which feature of SF5 I should use to get the volume even throughout the song. So far I've tried playing around with the Envelope (which turned out not to be the best way) and Normalization (which worked quite well, but then I faced the problem of volume at the edges of the modified selection not being consistent with the volume before and after that selection). Can you, please, advise me some elegant method to get the volume level even across the song ? Thanks a lot for the answer. |

What you want to do here is use a compressor. Which is basicly dynamic volume control. With nice long attack and release settings you should be able to achive your goal. A compressor with make-up gain would pull up the volume of the low levels and dampen the high levels giving you more of a overall volume level. Jón Hallur |

Novotny, Not to insult the pros on this forum, but if you want a simple fix, and you have Sound Forge 5.0, you might just wanna mess with the presets in Wave Hammer, one that uses RMS scan mode - not Peak scan mode. I use the "Voice" preset quite a bit. Hope that helps. Good luck. - pup |
