Hi there, I've just installed Batch Converter 5.0 and was tinkering about with it last night. However, whenever I try to set the output file type to MP3 it freezes & dies. This happened everytime I tried it - even if no other processing plug-ins were set up. The main reason for me using Batch Converter would be to convert finished projects to MP3s before uploading to a web server. Any ideas anybody?? |

You might try downloading 5.0a if you're not running it (click on the download link at the top of the page). That may solve your problem. |

I have 5.0a set up on two workstations. One Batch Converter works fine with MP3 conversions, the other has the problem you described. Don't know what's up. Any solutions? - pup |

Duh. I did a re-install recently of the works (Sound Forge 5.0, Vegas LE, Batch Converter)on one workstation, and apparently, when you do that, you need to re-register the MP3 plug-in in Sound Forge before it'll work in the Batch Converter. Had I saved a few more (wav.) files as MP3s in my newly installed Sound Forge, I would have been prompted to do so. Hope this helps others out there. - pup |

Thanks for the suggestions, but I am using V5.0a. If I open Batch Converter and without doing anything else, I just select the 'Save as MP3' option then the application freezes. I have installed SF5.0b but do not have any other Sonic Foundary apps installed. Do I need to install anything else to save a WAV as an MP3 file? It seems to me that something pretty fundamental is going wrong here. There must be someone (maybe from tech support?) who can help me out. Surely, I can't be the only person seeing this behaviour... |

Maybe it's time for some system maintenance. You didn't say what OS you are using, but try cleaning out your temp folder of any garbage, reboot then try again. If you don't know where your temp directory is, open a command prompt and type SET and press enter. The location will be shown. There may already be a temp filename sitting there that Batch Converter wants to use and it may be confusing the software. Temp files are necessary evil with Windows. If a program is using a temp file and freezes (or you have to immediately power off for whatever reason), the program never gets to properly clean up its mess with a proper shutdown. So there they sit and add up, eating disk space, and possilby slowing you down. |

Thanks for your response K. I'm using Win 98SE installed via 98lite. The Windows temp directory is empty. I can save MP3 formats via Soundforge itself but not with Batch Converter. Batch Converter falls over before I have even defined the files that I want convert. All I do is open the app, change the Save as file format to MP3 and the app freezes. No error, no Windows fault message, just a dead app that can only be shut down via the 'Close Program' dialogue. I'm at a total loss. Any more ideas? |

Mike; Open sound forge and open up a sound file. Go to file/save as/mp3/custom----register for the mp3 plugin 2.0. Then go back to batch converter and try to convert. It worked for me. |

I tried to convert a load of MP3s to waves in order to make a music CD but all I got was "error" beside each and every one of the files. Running NT4 spk6 on a PII 500 with 512 meg RAM and media drive is 10,000 RPM SCSI. Ended using good ol' winamp. |

I'm with ya up til the 'register' part. Where do I get the updated plug-in & how do I install it? All I'm looking to do at this point is normalize the levels on my MP3's to eliminate clipping. Is there an easier way? |
