i'm running my instrument through a tascam 4-track and into my computer,i open acid, i can play through the speakers but nothing is registering in acid,i try to record,a new track appears but ...NOTHING!
Am i having some kind of sound card issue,i think the one i have is rather cheap.

Are you using the "line in" connector on your soundcard? Might it be muted or turned all the way down for recording? (There's sometimes two separate settings, one for playback and one for recording. Check your soundcard's mixer settings.)

If you're using ACID Pro, be sure to select the proper recording device.

the "line in" connector to my sound card,if you mean the "line in" input with the picture of the microphone on the back of my computer then "yes",i also checked the soundcard through.... control panel>systems>devices>sound and ...control panel>multimedia and all seems good,is this how i check my soundcard's mixer settings?

The mic in is most likely an amplified input, so it might run a little hot...that is, if you can get a recorded signal going.

There should be a speaker icon in your systray in the lower right. Double-click it to open the mixer.
