1:1 Pixel for Widescreen in Vegas - can't be done?

I'm a long-time user but dammed if I can figure this out and it's certainly not referenced in help.

I have a custom project set to DCI Compliant widescreen scope 2048 x 858 (which I must have). I bring in 1920 x 1080 HD clip and want it set at 1:1 pixel scaling by default. Then apply the 107% scale to get to scope with and vertical crop for composition.

Note this must be exact 1:1 to the sub-pixel. Not a scale of any kind.

This is a zero step process in AE - you drag a HD clip into a scope project and it does it by default. But Vegas defaults the clip to fit the vertical height and defaults a crop to width. First, I don't want to deal with track motion scaling - but even if I did, it has not "turned off default state" either so not sure that can even be done there without a decimal point error.

Because of the VFX plates going back and forth from AE to Vegas, I need Vegas to not "fix" the clip when placing it so that every pixel isn the 2048 x 858 frame is exactly the same as AE - but I can find no way to make that happen. Hopefully, I'm overlooking something stupid.

So you want to crop off the top of the 1920 x 1080 image so that it fits the custom size side to side?

If that is so, open PAN CROP, right click and select MATCH OUTPUT ASPECT>

I think that will do what you want.

That's not really what I want - I want a project wide setting. Plus in this project it uses a pixel offset of .4 to make it work and I have to turn off "adjust source media" to even get it to work project wide.

I will need to do some difference mode testing with AE frame grabs to see if it's lining up perfectly for the VFX shots.

Are you trying to use Vegas to edit, but create your effects in AE, that is why you need to import the video this way?

In the Pan/Crop dialog box, type in your project frame height and width for the crop height and width. This always makes Vegas match vertical pixels 1:1. Assuming your PAR is also 1:1 for both the source and the project then the horizontal pixels will match 1:1 also.
