Subject:Mono sound file not heard out both speakers

If I open a one channel file and press play or preview, I hear it out the left channel only. How do I configure things to treat a single channel file as a mono source, heard centered across L and R channels as it would be in Sound Forge PC, or just about any other sound playback program for that matter?

You are sure that it's really a mono file, and not a stereo file with the right channel silent?
