Our Charlotte|Cutters group (formerly Charlotte Final Cut Pro Users Group) just had a DaVinci Resolve rep come in for a show & tell beginning of the week. Price -vs- Features makes me lean towards the FREE DaVinci Resolve Lite. DaVinci Resolve w/ Control Surface is $30K! WAY out of my price range. DaVinci Resolve Software is $995 which is a bit closer to my budget but still not a good ROI for me when it comes to Color Correction.

It was amazing to see how he isolated colors & areas with ease but it was a bit disappointing to hear the specs of the machine it takes to run & preview real-time. It was also a wake up call to see how a room should be setup/lit and all the correct equipment required for Color Correction.

He also ran Ultrascope alongside DaVinci Resolve on another monitor because the DaVinci Resolve GUI scopes were so small. All the text of the DaVinci Resolve is also really tiny. BlackMagic has stuffed a lot into a little space with DaVinci Resolve. I think he said it's minimum resolution is 1920 x 1080 but was optimized for 1920 x 1200.

He pulled EDL's from FCP 7, corrected, and sent them back with no problems. He said it was just as easy with Premiere Pro & Avid. He showed how to add correction to all clips from the same camera/angle, add correction based on matching other clips/cameras/angles, and work with EDL's &/or Shotlist's before the cut. -With someone knowledgeable behind the controls, and with the proper Color Correction workspace/workstation setup, DaVinci Resolve is extremely powerful. I just don't see me having the budget to spend that much time on the projects I do. Maybe one day when Lucas calls?

I'll probably play a little with DaVinci Resolve Lite but for most of my projects I'm good to go with the Color Correction tools & various 'Looks' plugins offered at a much lower price point.

He told us that although lots of things 'Under the Hood' were influenced by the Vegas way of doing things, Vegas just doesn't play well with with the DaVinci Resolve + NLE workflow.

Yes I had a go in the Blackmagic office and the motion tracker is plain awesomeness. I just bought the Adobe PPremium and had a go but i still love Vegas.

I hope Vegas can offer xml support in V12. that is like the sore thumb of FCPX folks!

Any news on this? Does V12 offer EDL that you can export back and forth between it and Resolve? Anyone managed to find a good workflow for this?

I dont' know if it works completetly, but use the FCP export. Resolve will import FCP projects.
