I am receiving this error code when selecting mp3 or mpeg for my convert to: format.

What OS are you using?

PC maintenance will work wonders.

Reboot into safe mode. Clean out your temp folder (c:\windows\temp) if running 95/98/ME or (c:\temp) if running NT or 2000. If running 2000 or XP, also run the Disk Cleanup accessory in the Start --> Programs --> Accessories --> Disk Cleanup. Check ALL the boxes and click OK. Reboot normally and try again. See if you have the same problem.

I am running Xp and have all my maintenince up to date. A stack dump usually indicates another program is tring to write to the same memory location. How can I correct?

It's possible that you have a corrupt installation. Try uninstalling, reboot, reinstall then try it out. If the problem persists, redownload the file and try again. Make sure you don't have anti-virus software running when installing/uninstalling.

Don't know if this is related, but I am also having trouble converting an MP3 file, but in my case, it tells me that "A Necessary Function Has Not Been Implemented". I just sent a note to Tech Support about this, hopefully will get an answer today.

A world of oops. I just wen't back and tried something else. I was converting from an MP3 TO an MP3 by telling it to maintain my file format. If I select MP3 as the output format, I get the same error you did and the program quits (naturally).

I am running WIN98SE and still can't convert to mp3. as soon as i click mp3 as output it error's like the first guys'.

I'm experiencing the exact same error as Stan (Access violations when attempting MP3 conversions from Batch Converter 5.0a).

Was there ever a resolution to this?

When trying to convert a simple .wav to .mp3 I too get an exception error (0005) memory conflict. Batch Converter program crashes and closes. I'm running Win2K on a Athlon XP/Kg7 mobo. Help! TRS80

Spent a couple hours on this. I also notice the Ligos MPEG plug-in causes the same memory exception error. I wonder if the problem lies with VIA based motherboards? Sonic Foundry could you give us a few ideas on isolating the memory conflict? I haven't been able to find anything sitting at the memory addresses reported. Win2K, SP2, Abit KG7, Win2K ATI video drivers, IDE harddrives.

This response doesn't directly address the problem with BC, but in lieu of any response from SF here, I would suggest a possible work-around. Exact Audio Copy (EAC) is a freeware program, a bit difficult to get a total grip on, but it does an excellent job ripping cd's as well as doing batch mp3 conversions. It's got a quirky, in my opinion, re-naming scheme, but it allows you to use the Lame encoder in external processing mode, configured exactly the way you want. It does an excellent job. When the program is running, you would choose:
EAC>Compression Options and then select the "External Compression" tab. It allows you to choose a lot of configuration options.

Thanks, SK for the tip. To see if there is a major bug in BatchConverter 5a, I installed it on a second computer. SAME PROBLEM! Second computer is also a Abit KG7. So, I installed the program on an old clunker (a BX chipset) and it works just fine. Something's rotten here with computers having VIA chipsets and Windows 2000?

I've got 98SE. And am having the same problem. I do have a VIA chipset, (and would NEVER get another computer with a VIA chipset as a result; just way too many freakin conflict problems. I think they're up to version 4.x of their 4 way patch; never again.)

Overall, I have not had a bad experience with VIA chipsets. However, they can be tempermental. Evidently, the mp3plug.dll and ligosplug.dll files have entry points that VIA is using or some resident program is using. Although, I have not been able to debug who is causing the conflict with these plug-ins. I realize that Sonicfoundry can't test every possible hardward combination out there, so we have to just endure this aggravation. Would be nice if Sonic Foundry would respond to our experiences and observations.

I was able to solve my this problem by checking in with the original poster.

Conducting the on-line registration process for the MP3 plug-in solved the problem (I did it from Sound Forge -- not sure if you can do it from within Batch Converter or not).
