Does the Large Address Aware patch do anything for Acid ? I read varying reports/opinions. Seems like some programs it helps, others it makes no difference. Ive applied it now and again with no ill effects that I can tell but have not really seen a performance increase. Tests Ive tried have been load time for a 1gb wmv file, loading large projects, rendering time for large projects, nothing really noticable when doing A/B tests with the patch. There are reading changes though. In Help> About Acid Pro> Computer the last listing is for "Virtual Memory Possible". With The LAA patch it lists 4095 MB. Without the LAA patch it lists 2048 MB. The Memory Usage reading at the bottom of the main project window shows 4095mb available regardless. Perhaps Acid can see the change but is unable to use the extra ram. As far as acurate listings go the OS lists as Vista SP1 when it is actually Win 7 x64.It does however acurately see the installed ram, 16gb and the pagefile at 2gb. Changing the pagefile size or removing it does not affect the patching results. Memory Physical memory: 16,264.7 MB Paging memory available: 18,310.9 MB Virtual memory possible: 4,095.8 MB I first read about the patch a couple years ago and results have always been the same whether xp, vista, 7, 8 both 32 and 64 bit. In 32 bit os the "Virtual Memory Possible" will read more like 3250 up from 2048. LAA Patch- http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/showthread.php?t=112556 |

Well - since Acid is a 32bit application - no amount of fudging the memory load is going to get you more performance. Any 32 bit app is good for about 2GB max.... Now - a better CPU will easily get you outstanding performance but running ACID with Windows 7 64bit is the easiest way to get the max memory that the app will allow - without resorting to any ancient "LAA" hacks - these were mildly interesting back in the XP days - but now with a full blown 64bit system - there's really no need. And I would bet that ACID is not compiled to handle it anyway - since this hack would be so cryptic and so far below that average man's radar that I would think Sony would not bother with something like that. ACID was designed for the everyman for standard Windows XP usage. And that's about it.... VP |

Hence Why a new updated 64x version is desperately needed. If Sony can do it for Vegas Pro they can do it for acid pro. I tried the 64X version ot vegas pro 12. Seemed to work fine. Layout for timeline and mixing console is identical. Come on Sony... Its time to deliver a real 2012 version of Acid Pro capable of handling mass plugins. |

I also found that if you use Resource Hacker and Jbridge to patch the......Im kidding. Acid is what it is I agree. The best thing to do to improve performance is probably to run it on an XP machine with a P4. The move to ssd's and faster ram seems to have eliminated any hangs and latency issues regardless of which os Ive been using. |

If I recall correctly, no matter if you change the BIOS for large address aware in a 32 bit OS or run acid in a 64bit OS, the coding in the application is such that it will never see or address more than 2GB of RAM, as is the case with a good deal of 32bit apps. This usually renders the LAA Bios changes a waste of time Message last edited on10/18/2012 12:10:19 PM byinocmusic. |
