So far, there's no way I would equate this with SF Pro for Windows. It's missing a lot of features that make SF Pro what it is. It's as I feared, and SF has been watered down for the Mac. I mean, it's the difference between a real tool and a toy. I hate saying it, because I'm assuming Sony has been cranking on this for a while, but swing and a miss with this one. Also, why include Izotope plug-ins if I can't demo them? Outputting silence in demo mode is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard of. That's not demo mode, that's adding more ways to mute your audio. Am I just missing something here? So, is SF PfM a powerful mastering suite? Who knows? It's hard to see how the plug-ins affect performance or even the sound of the file when you can't actually demo them. So, my options are the built-in AU effects? What's special about that? Any other editor has access to these. Big whoop. I hope to sweet baby jeebus that Windows development is still continuing, because there's no way I'd even consider switching at this point. Maybe they'll iron out the issues and put features back in for future releases? I do like what they've done with the layout, and would love to have these options integrated into SF PfW. At this point though, PfM isn't even on par with SF Audio Studio for my workflow. Disappointed, but I had a feeling I would be. Ports of DAWs or even complete rewrites so far are just too limited to be useful. I'm starting to think this is just a limitation of OSX. My name is Rob, and apparently, I'm a PC. Rob. |

After some more work in SF PfM, I'm in love with the GUI. If the functionality was there, this would be a home run. This experience has made me revisit the way I have SF PfW laid out visually. So, there's that bit of bonus. Rob. |

Good morning. Nice seeing these early reports come in. There’s a ton of stuff to talk about of course, but roblesinge’s two posts lead to some important points. SFPM was not ported, it was built from scratch in OS X with all new design concepts. This is really the best way to arrive at an OS X UI worth falling in love with (I love it too-- the more you use it the more you’ll like it). Because we didn’t simply port it, the natural result is that it isn’t as feature-rich as its PC counterpart that’s been out for the last 15 years. We have features waiting in the wings that we’re finalizing now, so expect to see updates in due course. The iZotope matter—we’re looking at that. More later… keep your feature requests coming… I’m making a list! |

Mike, Yeah, I figured this was an early iteration and features would be added as the software evolves. I certainly didn't mean to flame y'all right out of the gate. And honestly, it's not the worst rewrite for Mac that I've experienced. I can only imagine the work that has gone into it, and I'm excited to hear that there are plans to restore functionality. Luckily, my organization has no plans to migrate to Mac at this point. However, I would be thrilled if the Mac became a viable option for us in the future. Regardless, the Mac was sorely lacking a good straightforward editor, IMO. This is a great first step. Rob. |

As is... it is the best Editor for the Mac... can't wait for what it is coming and I will be purchasing this one. But Mike, one question... is this ever going to be in the App Store or just sold directly? |

Mike - Unless I'm missing something there is no way to zoom in on the waveforms. This can't really be true is it? I don't mean zooming in on the whole program window, I mean the equivalent of hitting the little + and - buttons on the PC version. Without the ability to zoom this program is less than useless to me. |

Up and down arrow do this. You can also drag the edges in the overview bar to zoom of the visible region. The mouse wheel and track pad gestures can be used to Zoom in and out. Chapter 10 of the manual covers Magnification and Zooming in detail. Chapter 11 covers the keyboard short cuts for magnification and zooming. The Z index has two entries for Zooming as well. I must say after waiting all these years, im a little disappointed too.. I was hoping to get rid of Parallels and PC SF running on my Mac. Its a shame it wasn't just an import of the PC version with some Mac tweaks. I can't understand why you didnt go for the floating windows on the workspace instead of a combination of two windows open or the tabs thing...? I have tried it, but still end up using the PC version, so I'm no closer to moving, I may in turn try and use Reaper more and more as a multi-track editor :( |

Count me as disappointed as well. I won't consider buying it until they fix obvious things that are missing: NO batch converter NO Playlist NO Custom key commands (like roblesinge stated) NON-working Izotope plugs I've already found a bug with the VU meters not showing up on the right-side pane. Please make this app better than SoundTrack Pro. Currently, it's not. |
