Subject:"Q-Tips" in frequency selections

I'm playing with extracting harmonics on a steady tone. As I'm clicking across the frequency, however, I see a fuzzy area at each end of the mouse highlight that looks like a yellow Q-Tip. And, sure enough, once clicked, the extraction includes the "cotton" at each end of the selection and this continues across the file, creating "lumps" in the audio. I know this can be corrected in a separate step, but can I prevent it in the first place?

First of all, I have to say thank you to Sony for their fantastic support (not!). And this forum's certainly where it's all happening. Woohoo!

If anyone cares, I finally discovered the answer to my Q-Tips question - and now I'm using SpectraLayers with gusto, solving all kinds of interesting challenges in my files: If you need to click on something like a sustained sound several seconds long, set the Time Limit (sec) parameter to exceed the length of the note so you only need to click only once. As soon as I did that, no more artifacts in the extraction. Of course, cursor movement gets clunky and slow, but I can tolerate that. What I couldn't tolerate was messy extractions that were difficult to clean up.

My application of the software may be different from most, I don't know. I'm working with samples.

In another post I will list a couple of product update requests which may fall on deaf ears, but it's worth a try...

Doug
