Digging around installs on Win64 machines... With respect, I have much better things to be doing with my time. Pains me to point ask, but why are there not any 64bit win 7 installs for Sony's software? Why should we be mucking with XP compatibility mode, and hunting down old library files to please SxS ? I note SF9.0 has a dependency on a VC Redist from 2005.... The message "no 64bit version" version and so very little support sends me is that there isn't commitment to the title for pro users. Maybe this software is really at the of end of line and it's just being stretched out for the last few sales. 64bit is not new or radical any more. Come on guys, what's keeping you stuck in 2006? |

Who needs a native 64 bit editor anyway? SF v10 (32bit) works perfectly in Windows 7 x64 with no issues whatever. You gain absolutely nothing by using a 64 bit version except for increased memory access but it's not like Forge is going to require some giant samplers or anything else that might tax the system. It's not faster, better or in any way "ahead" of what the 32bit version does...so I fail to see the need for complaining about it. Note: If you are attempting to use any version of Forge older than v10 - I wouldn't bother at all on Windows 7 since v9 and back were not designed for it - nor will you ever see any further updates for those oldies. Sound Forge 9 was released 1-1/2 years before Win7 64. Sound Forge 10 was a major upgrade to the line that addressed compatibility with the new OS. Hope that helps. |

I'll keep my replies to the bug shoot thread with the stack trace, but a trial version fo SF10 failed at the same point - intialising the audio engine. Same place, probably means same fault. Message last edited on9/6/2012 3:19:08 PM byDD12. |

Possibly means the same fault in somethin in your system then. And V9 ?!!! In the meantime many of us have been happily using SF10 in W7-64 for yonks without any problem and without any mucking about with 'XP-compatibility modes' . There are 64-bit versions of Sony apps where there is a point to it (except Acid). geoff Message last edited on9/6/2012 4:52:27 PM byGeoff_Wood. |

Possibly means the same fault in somethin in your system then. +1 Definitely a system issue if 9 AND 10 are crashing at the same spot. As mentioned - v10 has been running here on Win 7 64bit for months like a champ. There is nothing wrong with that version and Win 7 whatsoever. v9 - that's a whole different story. VP |

I've mentioned this before, but I'm also running 4.5 and CDA 4 on a Win 7 64-bit Ultimate install without problems. I know it's not supported (by a long shot), but so far, so good. If I do have problems, I fail and not Sony. Gambling here. |

Definitely a system problem with DD12's system. VP |

"failed at the same point - intialising the audio engine." Whoa. Why did you wait so long to tell us about "that"? You haven't provided one bit of information about your physical system, audio hardware, drivers and configuration, and yet you have presumed a disconnect between the software and the operating systems? Please see the other thread - there is a full diagnosis including stack trace of the fault. And the system spec is at the top. |

Kind of points up the pitfalls of starting parallel threads, doesn't it? The "other thread" doesn't eve have your user name on it. Best of luck. Message last edited on9/7/2012 9:59:05 AM bymusicvid10. |
