Subject:Anybody using Sound Forge on a Mac?

I've read some things about people running Sound Forge using Wine, WineBottler, or Crossover with varying degrees of success. I've also seen people using parallels but I was hoping to not have to run an entire Windows emulator just for one program. Is anybody doing this successfully? Thanks! |

hoping to not have to run an entire Windows emulator just for one program Give it a try - nothing like having one's mind opened to a new universe of potentially useful software ! geoff |

Try this: https://www.virtualbox.org/ It's free, though you will need to get yourself a Windows install disc as well. Really nice thing is that it runs in a Window simultaneously with your host computer's OS so you can flip back and forth between all programs including those running in the Windows session. |

Thanks for the link! I've investigated Wine, WineBottler, Macindows, Crossover and now VirtualBox. It seems that none of these support drag and drop (or right click and open with, or setting a file format to default to opening with an application cross platform). This pretty much makes it useless for me to use any of these as I need to edit hundreds, if not thousands of small files daily and navigating to each one individually won't work for me. I'll look at Parallels and VMWare Fusion. Thanks! |

Might be worth picking up a PC ('used' maybe ?) - wouldn't need to be huge spec, and can be very inexpensive. geoff Message last edited on6/8/2012 9:32:42 PM byGeoff_Wood. |

A very good reason for the OP to seek running Soundforge on a Mac - Bias - the makers of Peak and Peak Pro have closed the business. Peak is/was Mac's answer to SF. Apparently this happened over the last couple of days. If you go to the Bias site at: http://www.bias-inc.com/ you'll see what I'm talking about. Jack |

Thanks for the heads-up Jack. No mention of Peak Bias' demise in the pro-audio publications and networks... yet. |

Interesting thing: the day before I posted here about Bias closing shop it was still for sale at places like Sweetwater. The day after I posted here it is no longer listed for sale. So it's a relatively recent development and I doubt many third party people have posted on it. If you go to this thread on Motunation (page 2 and look for a post by sberkley who's head honcho over at Bias) you'll see a bit of an explanation: http://www.motunation.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=50224&start=15 Jack |

Runs flawlessly with bootcamp/W7. I had system problems & slow downs w/ Parallels & VM. |

Bootcamp? Works great. XP SP3 install. FW800 connected. Don't recommend this set up for streaming playback from sample libraries though. |
